LOL! Good grief, RTH, are you implying the perp was at fault (yes, even if mentally ill) instead of the victims, the gun manufacturers, the movies, TV, rap music and video games. Gets my rec, RTH. BTW, I haven't heard anything about the kid ...[text shortened]... his girlfriend. Anyone have any info about his mother and father?
His father committed suicide four years ago and his mother is in a nursing home with brain injuries caused by a car accident. Sad and sick story.

BTW, no gun control laws would have prevented this tragedy; the kid got the guns from his grandfather, who was a local police officer.

His mother is in a nursing home (brain damage from auto accident) and his father killed himself four years ago.

Also for those spouting gun control, the weapon used was his Grandfather's Police revolver.

edit...No1 beat me to it.

Thank you N1 and xs. Very sad. For some reason I must have missed that info on the news. Was he living with his grandfather?

Yes and his grandfather and grandfather's girlfriend were the first killed.

Before the Red Lake shootings, Weise, whom authorities described variously as 16 or 17, allegedly shot dead his grandfather and his grandfather's girlfriend at the home he shared with them.

I believe the father committed suicide a few years back, and the mother is in a nursing home for mental reasons? I think that is what was said in the news this morning. If someone has a correction I would appreciate it.

Just on a side note....not only am I able to own guns as well as many like myself without killing people (even people I detest) I can also manage to sit in a restaurant and eat a meal without plunging a knife into the waiter for delivering poor service.

Then you're a more patient man than I could ever be; that's why I'm only allowed very dull, plastic utensils.😞

As posted above, by xs and myself the mother is in a nursing home because of brain injuries caused by a car accident.

LOL! You're a good guy, RTH. I've been legally carrying concealed since the 1960s. In Michigan at present a person has to retake the training course every 5 years and re-qualify on the range. I live 7 miles from town and shoot in my backyard without bothering anyone. I don't hunt or shoot competitively. I just shoot enough to keep my weak and strongh hands coordinated with my eyes. The typical point & shoot drill at close range.

I went up and looked and saw that. Thanks for the info.
Very tragic life for the kid that has now made life tragic for many others.
It's a damn shame all around.

I think that the real issues are about how to reach out to a child or adult before these incidents happen.

Pistols eh? I got a buddy that carries a 357 mag for bear hunting up the road a piece. Nice gun, he let me squeeze off a few rounds at an old soup can at about 20 yrds. LOL! I was shooting about 3' high and to the right. It did not make sense for me to aim 3' low and to the left to compensate. I just stick to my rifles and my bow.
Last week I picked up a .17 single shot. I swear it will shave the nuts of a fly at 200 yrds.

From what I can find this isn't the case.

Canada with 24% compared to America with 85%. Care to give me a source which backs your assertion?

Oh, did I step on your toes?...my apologies. I didn't call you a name..., or did I?..well, I said you were a moron IF, ....and, I wasn't debating you 'cause no matter what I write, you throw the same rhetoric in my face: illegal war, Kyoto agreement, etc...got any original drivel, Rag? "Sucks to be me"? You're the one who lives in Ireland....

Oh, and you never answered my question about why you were inquiring as to whether I wear star-spangled underwear or not...remember that one? 😉

I heard it in Bowling for Columbine but I'll try to find a primary source. I can assure you the figures given by the Canadien Justice Department for gun ownership in the US are wildly incorrect; there is no way 85% of US households have a gun!

Is it a .17 Remington 700 series? Never had a .17 but I hear they are flat shooters out to 200-300 yards. Does your buddy carry a .357 Colt Python? I've had a couple over the years and sold them. Beautiful, smooth handling revolvers. I should have kept one. But too big to really carry concealed in a comfortable fashion. I currently have a S&W compact DA .45 auto. A S&W .38 Centennial, S&W .38 Chief's Special, S&W AirLite .22 (all revolvers with 2" barrels), a Colt Detective .38 Special (2" barrel) and a Walther DA SS .22 auto. The Walther is palm size and a beautiful piece of engineering, inside and out.

Sig 229 is also a fine pistol. The bottleneck .357 has great stopping power and a little less recoil than a standard .357. I also have a Colt .45 auto that I carry concealed here in Texas.
