Trump had no intention of curbing imports. To sell to the USA means they have to accept US dollars. Exporting US dollars is good if you want to keep the US dollar as the world reserve currency. How do you think we got it to be the world reserve currency in the first place? You cannot do that by keeping US dollars here. They want to export US dollars. The elites love that.

Say Sony sells us a widget they sell for 100 bucks. Grainger picks it up and adds a 30% profit, so they sell it for 130 bucks.
Then Trump adds 20% to OUR cost, so now Grainger pays 120 dollars for the widget that the day before cost 100 bucks.
So do you seriously thing Grainger is going to give up on that 30% profit and now just sell it for 130 bucks anyway? If so, get fuuuking SERIOUS.
They will up the price more like + THIRTY percent thinking they can get away with gauging so it now costs US nearly 170 dollars and Sony didn't lose a penny, WE pay the difference but Trump IS an idiot and I think he knows full well WE are the ones paying that sales tax and he is even going so far as to want to kill the entire IRS and substitute JUST the 'tariff', really just a sales tax up front, instead of income tax and such.
