The post that was quoted here has been removedI haven't seen Fawlty Towers, but looked it up and saw that it's from 1975. The views have changed a lot since then (at least in Germany and Norway, but probably in the UK as well), especially since Bush became president.
Pro-gun, right-wing Christian fundamentalist would be part of the stereotypical anti-American view of today, I think.

I am absolutely convinced that I don't know all that much and that I am not always right, but I am also convinced that I am right about saying that these stereotypical Americans exist, but that most Americans are not like that. Do you disagree with that?

Don't be paranoid, Red. Look at trevor's post about Guiness and potatoes or my sardine jokes. Some things ARE typical and there's nothing wrong with that. Quite the contrary, I think that they bring colour and an uniqueness that creates all the wonderful diversity around our world.
