Well, I think you have a good point - I'd rather be told it's "a benefit only given to subscribers" than hear a lame excuse about spam - which , after all, these days can be prevented or rectified.
I got a "spam" pm from stang once - I thought to meslf "so what" and deleted it. End of story.

Most forums have a user configurable link to your own messenger[ie msn, yahoo, etc]

There are users who come back under different names time and time again. They can send you 1000 pm's.

You block them, and they make a new user name, and send you another 1000 saying "Ha ha! Bet you wish there was a 10 PM limit at RHP, Sucker".

That is why it was done.

Perhaps we are looking at this the wrong way, maybe we should open up the message system to those non-sub users that we can trust, like myself and Dr Strangelove, screw the rest of the non-sub populous, you can trust us two. 🙂

Right on mate! 🙂

I don't use it that much meself but I can see it could affect some.

And, for someone to send one user 1000 pms wouldn't they have to actually do them one at a time?
They would get tired of doing it before I got tired of deleting them.

We need a new category of non-sub non-scumbags. 😀

*mutters* stupid site with it's stupid rules....
Just why the hell do you need to send so many messages? I've been on this site for a long time and I doubt I've sent more than 10 in a day.

Damn, chatterbox. 😛

If you were having a conversation with one other member it can soon add up to 10. Perhaps if it was set at only send messages to 10 other users instead of messages.
By having it set as it is now would surely[I think] encourage spammers to get even more new accounts so that can't be the real reason.

Ooh, yeah! That's a very good idea. I'm only talking with three people right now, but the messages add up quite quick.

So you could send 1000 PMs to a single person instead?

You weren't even registered on the site when it happened.

How long would it take for a single user to send 1000 Pms - and how long would it take one other person to delete them?
There must be another reason apart from spamming that the limit was set and kept. It doesn't seem logical otherwise.

?

EDIT: All by hand, I could easily write a macro that sent messages that could send hundreds a minute or more but well, effort.

Yes, I can see the point, but I would then report you, you would be banned and I would delete the lot - no problem. [well ok a slight bit of aggro but then the spammer would be gone]

And how many of the eejit spammers would be capable of writing a macro to do it?

Do ex-subscribers have their limit reduced to 10. Strange if they do, cause they couldn't be spammers could they?
