Not necessarily - as I was explaining, there are many examples where this does not in fact automatically take place (for example in the YOI and female sector, and isolated examples elsewhere).
The situation is slowly changing whereby they are trying to integrate more of them amongst so-called trusted prisoners[eg, convicts who won't batter them]so you are partly right.

Prison is all about managing risk - there are arguments for and against integration from a rehabilitational perspective; personally I think integration would work better in maximum security prisons than it would in local jails or YOIs.
