Ah. I've seen "egg salad" before but never really knew what it was. When I see egg salad, I'm thinking lettuce, tomato, carrots and sliced, hard-boiled eggs.

We just call these egg-mayo sarmies.
In American cuisne, the word sandwich is often omitted.
Therefore we have bacon lettuce and tomato, grilled cheese, peanut butter and jelly etc

Bacon is not ham. Although of course, you poor old Americans don't really get bacon do you?

Cripes, does everyone from around the world think we only have French fries, T-Bone steaks and Budweiser beer?

No, we know you have burgers and hotdogs as well. And doughnuts, albeit lazily spelled, for your 'cops'. And twinkies, whatever the hell they are. That about covers it though, right?

The best fish and chips I've ever had was in Murphy's Hotel, Murphy's California, last July. The batter was mixed with beer, very light with hardly a trace of oil/grease. Chips were miles better that any from the 3 local chippies near me. The salad was enough for 6 people, as are all the meals we were served.

Great value for money, if you can eat it all. My wife spent 30 mins eating a salad and after she had finished, the waitress came over and asked if there was anything wrong with it, as it looked as though she hadn't touched it!

Mexican, chinese and italian restaurants were fantastic as well. Looking forward to our next visit in 2012, probably Arizona, where we have also had some great holidays.

Actually, you have accidentally uncovered a little known american and international festival. The ham fest is a tailgate party of amateur radio operators who bring ham gear to buy and sell, like receivers, transmitters, software, solar cells and the like. I go to hamfests all the time! My call is AI3N.

Don't forget country ham, the American prosciutto, along with other fully dry cured salt meats such as fatback.

Yeah, well... in The Virginian Colonies, "awl y'awl" is standard English. And McD's counts as "meat". So what's standard over there isn't really relevant to the real world.

It is (I presume) a typo for "sarnie". And yes, that is a dialect term for "sandwich".
