You see, you've got me all wrong.
Maybe these preconceptions you have are the reason you fail miserably at debate. Keep that in mind in future.
My dad had a .38, .357, and a strange little .25 (or something) pistol that was my gran's. My dad taught me a lot of gun safety and I've shot all these handguns. I was on our school's shooting team in high scho ight about one thing though, I will never 'shake' my revulsion of stupid Americans.
And I don't see how your past experience with firearms is relevant in the slightest since the main point on which we disagree is that NOW you believe law-abiding gun owners, like your father apparently was or is, should have their rights taken away, and I don't. I don't see how your shooting a warthog etc effects the discussion of that point. I can't help wondering though if your father came to the same conclusion you did, i.e., that since criminals robbed him of his guns, he never had the right to have them in the first place.
And yes I DO see what you mean, and I agree that some guns are stolen and can be turned to ill use. It's so obvious and simple a point that it cannot be missed, but you seem to be painting the entire world with your one personal experience. In the real world the bad guys don't always get to steal the guns. In fact quite the opposite is true. The guns in the hands of good people vastly outnumber the criminal's guns and so predominantly deter violent crime, thus saving lives. Not only is this just plain old common sense, but it has been proven, and the proof has been laid before you here on a silver platter. But no matter, guns are bad because you say so. Whatever.
Finally, thanks for the nice crack about us stupid Americans. Gee, how unexpected and original. Believe me, I am not stung in the least. For my part, though I find you frustratingly arrogant and lacking in manners, I know you're just expressing what you believe to be right. That's all any of us can do. I'm officially and permanently agreeing to disagree. Revile me if you will, but I only wish you well.
