Check the latest FBI crime stats. Guns are used 3 million times a year by law abiding citizens to prevent a crime and they are only the ones Reported.

If you feel that strongly then carry. Personally I won't be.
Originally posted by yo its meOK, i'll just carry a knife. I have a CCW, but rarely carry. May have to in the future. People who carry concealed better know the law concerning lethal force or be willing to spend a life time in jail.

Guns are also a proven safety device. See Phlabibit's link.
The contortions you go through to justify your position are truly amusing. You yourself say that you live in an area rife with violence, you refuse to arm yourself, and instead lecture me (the guy sitting in a country chock full of guns and far lower rates of violent crime) that I am apathetic. Its hilarious.
Let me spell it out for you:
It's because of the large quantity of crime committed here where criminals are using firearms that I'm against ANYONE owning one.
Can you see what I'm saying or did you ride the short bus to school?
BTW, LOL @ guns are a proven safety device.
You just made my day by posting the most idiotic post in weeks on these forums.

Amen!
It was 174 children out of millions, and the guns shouldn't be blamed, more likely (just a guess here) the parents were irresponsible.

It's true that many/most kids, boys especially, are fascinated by guns and other types of weapons. It's very important to teach them gun safety, and there are many programs here in the US for just that purpose. The Eddie Eagle program is probably the most prevalent.

My kids have both disassembled and cleaned enough guns that the fascination has definitely been curbed, and in the process they have learned all about gun safety, and that guns can be deadly. If they now come across a situation (say at a friend's house) where someone is playing around with their dad's gun or something, I think they will be better prepared to get themselves out of that situation than if they had been sheltered from guns their entire lives.

I think it's sad that you have these extra presures on parenthood.

Most involved simply brandishing the weapon. Actually it's more like 2 million reported cases. You're right though, it's certainly Not legal to shoot a drunk who's at the wrong house. Your life must be in danger before you can use lethal force. If you don't know the law don't own a gun....and that includes criminals... they make the rest of us look bad.

Originally posted by SleepyguyGood for you, really. You obviously feel that you have to have guns (sad as that is) and you've made provisions for your childern to be safe. The idea that my childern might come accross guns at a freinds house is terrifying and I hope they never make freinds with such people!

Is it good or fun that 174 children died? No way, but taking guns from responsible people isn't the answer.
My God! I wonder how many were killed on Tramplines?! That is something I would NEVER have in my yard.

Originally posted by PhlabibitI'm saying you can't compare them. Deaths from car axcidents or choking are sad and are a different issue. It's like your saying that more childern die this way so that way is small in comparrison and not such a big deal- like saying 'childern die'.

It wouldn't be possiable to take all guns away from the citizens of the United States, and so this issue isn't going to be solved that way. The states likes solving problems with violence and it's this attitude that needs to change.
