Oh right. So you realise that the american economy is built on the back of the millions of illegal immigrants who work in the service industries, and do the jobs that americans deem themselves too good for, right?

No, not the jobs Americans think they're too good for. Jobs upper class people-the people who run the majority of this country- think they're too good for. I have one of those jobs in the service industries, and the comraderie of it is amazing.

So its just a coincidence that all the workers in americas meat factories, working in lethal conditions are nearly all illegals? Would you like to work in conditions where you have the biggest chance of getting injury? By hiring mostly illegals, the meat packing corporations know that they can't get sued when people get injured due to the conditions of the factories, and the fact that the people are working amidst tonnes of crap. The Centers for Disease Control has been forced to provide Spanish translations of all its worker safety posters, since there is no longer a reasonable expectation that workers can read and write English.

What about the Californian Orange plantations? Would americans work in the conditions that the illegals have to put up with? No wage, seriously dangerous working conditions as massive amounts of pesticide are used instead of good farming practices, meaning huge rates of cancers amongst workers. Again, by hiring mostly illegals, these farmers get away with it, as an illegal can't sue them for negligence.

America is a nation built on immigration. Whether that is forced (african slaves) or by "choice", millions of irish and chinese built the railway and infrastructure in hugely dangerous conditions. The average length of time that an Irish immigrant survived in america after emigrating during the famine was 6 years. This was to do with the lethal working conditions and the slave like pay that they had to feed their families on.

Do you blame the illegals for having to work in these conditions, or do you blame the corporations and government for allowing conditions to become so bad, that desperate illegals are the only ones that will work in them? Excerpt from an interview by the author of the excellent Fast Food Nation..."Until the late 1970s, meatpacking was one of the highest paid industrial jobs in the United States. And then the Reagan and Bush administrations stood aside and allowed the meatpacking industry to bust unions, to hire strike breakers and scabs, to not only hire illegal immigrants but to transport them here from Mexico in company buses."

Again, I ask, is this policy the blame of the illegals or of the greedy government and greedier corporations?

By focussing your negativity on the illegals, you are being blinded from analytically looking at the root of the problem. This is as the government and big business want it. If your busy bitching about illegals, chances are you're not going to be venting against the root of the problem, the government.

BTW: Why is this in General?

Greedy corporations, and by way of greedy corporations, corrupt government officials allow it to happen. It's our own fault. But the reasoning behind forcing immigrants to learn English would be that if you find someone that doesn't speak English, you can correctly assume that they are illegal. If their co workers would be honest we wouldn't have to put up with greedy corporations.

This is in General because I didn't feel that it would be debated.

And, put yourself in the shoes of the greedy executives. Would you hire an American who knows the laws and expects fair treatment and pay, or an illegal immigrant who NEEDS a job, no matter at what cost it comes?

It amazes me how many people are battling to get into America that come from countries that are always complaining about how awful America is. If America is such a nasty country, then why are so many people from all over the world sneaking in every way they can?

As the General Forum is just as good a place for Debates, as the… Debates one.. I see its only fair to post a Site Idea here too..

Russ, can we have the option of shifting lost threads like this one to their appropriate forums? Of course, with the consent of the majority.

Just a thought.

I think the forum mods are already able to do that, or otherwise I don't know how a thread from the clan forum once ended up in the general forum (even though it clearly belonged to the clan forum, so I have no idea why it was moved). To allow others to do this would probably lead to total chaos.

Where do you come up with such drivel? The illegals make a very small contribution to the American economy.
If anything, they're a drain on it
