yea, and people criticizing totalitarian security measures are terrorists.
IQ is a mickey mouse concept, designed to compress a multidimensional unquantifiable set of psychological variables into a single number. it's simply ridiculous.
it's like taking a picture of a painting, measuring it's rgb components, calculating a single number from the red enough from the average picture. it would work exactly like the IQ measurements.
Mickey Mouse concept?
Originally posted by B52EWOInterestingly enough, the lower IQ group you mention has one thing going for them the high IQ's don't: They seem to have an innate ability to tell if you are bullshyting them, they seem to be able to discern deceit better than the so-called intelligent ones. I think it has to do with more real time interaction with your facial features or something like that, reading faces better. I think higher IQ types assume you can hide your real emotions like a poker face. Similar to color blind folks, they have a compensation, yes they are limited in their abiltiy to tell certain or all colors but they have an especially acute perception of shades of gray. Military commanders send out color blind soldiers (if they know about this effect) to spy out camouflaged enemy, since they inevitably use various shades of gray and blace to try to blend in, the color blind dude can spot you instantly.
OK wormwood, if that's the case, then go have a nice chat with a group who scored 80 or less, then spend some time with a bunch that are in the 120+ category, and tell us you see no difference.

They are a MODEL for intelligence, just like your proposed model for paintings. Paintings are MUCH harder to model, your method of modelling is much worse and less well thought out than most IQ tests.
Quantative results are very useful, the fact that they are normalised makes them very useful in comparitive data. You just have to realise that they are a MODEL.
Your arguement rubbish's most of the world of statistics as it is built upon making multidimensional (or real life) problems into quantifiable and testable models.
Teaching mathematics I refer to IQ results of my pupils often. I do not find it mickey mouse. It is useful data and a better indication of latent cognitive ability than even SATS tests.
A smart man once said:
"errors using inadequate data are better than using no data at all"
By the way IQ tests have a Standard deviation of 15 so your example of paintings would not even be the same in that respect.

you can't give nothing but a vague guess along the lines of stupid, normal, smart -scale, can you? and even that might be totally off. -and if so, why would you trust a numerical value if you can't tell if it's correct?
if I remember right, buddy2 said his IQ has been tested to be around 82. I can't see any difference comparing his posts to the '130-150' crowd here. he also outplays most players on rhp. is he "one of the good ones"?
Originally posted by wormwoodOK, this is just getting sad. The science of psychometrics and IQ tests have been around for a long time and their relation as to how people can be expected to do in different endeavors is so well documented that it's ridiculous to claim that it's "mickey mouse", etc.

Do a little reading on the subject before you start making a lot of nonsensical claims. Don't speak from an emotional or ignorant viewpoint. Know what you're talking about before you start blabbering about how IQ test results are meaningless.
And please don't garbage up your argument about someone who scores low on an IQ test that is really quite bright, there are a number of reasons that can occur (dyslexia, ADD, etc) there are exceptions to everything.
