Just use the -40 window wash and you'll be fine. Unless you live in the artic you will need something higher -45 and up. Also need to plug car in at night, or you aren't going anywhere in the morning.

Now window wipers are going to wear out and have to be replaced, as required

I feel my character has been defamed. I am tempted to suggest that you purchase cheaper brands of diesel in an indiscriminate manner.

Here you go, explain this to the car cleaner you use next time he fobs you off with a cheap Fairy Liquid car wash.

‘The particular problem with washing up liquid and the "rubber/plastic type" seals around the windows of cars is that the very oil hungry hydrophobic end of the hydrocarbon chain in the liquid surrounds those rubber/plastic type materials which are derived ...[text shortened]... fter a year or so the seal is sufficiently away from the glass to cause a leak every time it rains.’
Fair one.
Thanks for that. 😀

I’ll update my Russian wizard CEng on your reply and refer him to an article I found explaining the upgrades on the windshield rubber gaskets with Butyl tape then urethane. https://carroar.com/windshield-leaking-water/ He’s now moved into the field of designing engine parts for classic motorcycles having acquired a few and finding that certain components are no longer manufactured. He will give his usual no-nonsense, professional opinion.

Btw, what size syringe are you using to measure up your aforementioned ratio of 0.001mls : 1.5 L of the washing up liquid to screen-wash & water concentration? (Edit: just worked that one out myself sorry)

An interesting forum chat, it’s given my brain a bit of a workout though I’d draw the line at applying for an HGV licence just yet I think.

You should do it and become an HGV driver. We're gonna need some intelligent ones to dilute the desperate appointments. Only the other day I saw an HGV driver take the rear bumper off a car. You don't see that often. Made me wonder if we will see a lot of hastily trained drivers on the road.

I remember thinking it might be the ideal job when I was a kid. I had enjoyed hitchhiking and was struck by the idea of sleeping in the cab anywhere in Europe rather than considering doing the same old route over and over for hours. It looked a lot better before 'Smart Motorways' and mismanaged railways putting more on to HGVs. The mess that has been made of our infrastructure is kind of hidden by the idea that there would be queues and driver shortages anyway due to recent history, but I wonder how desirable it was to drive HGVs anyway.

My son has just received his provisional! I have warned him that it’s not a great job with hours away from home. An HGV driver friend who drove for the Royal Mail used to frequently ring me around 11pm moaning and swearing about this and that motorway being blocked or suddenly closed off thus running over his driving time and having to take another break before heading home. RM drivers are only allowed to park in designated depots for safety reasons but they are well paid. He also told me about the eastern European truckers he’d see parked up on lay-bys, all gathered around a pot of something cooking a meal together, explaining how poorly paid they were.

Most HGV drivers get work through agencies. He resorted to driving a sewage waste truck once as they paid slightly more than most ... until there was a leak on the tank pipe and he got a horrific dose of D&V. 🤮
