A lorry driver was driving drunk and hit a car, killing three people, including two little girls. Lorry drivers = killers. All of them. Scum of the earth.

Dear BLReid,

OK, here we go. Let's take your points one by one.

Quote: These are high profile cases. There is no question that they happen, but they are high profile for a reason… they are extraordinary examples. By definition, that means that they are nor ordinary, they are no reflection on how things are normally done.

My response: They are only extraordinary in the sense that, because of their seriousness, the innocent did not give up their fight for justice. These cases ARE A REFLECTION of how things are normally done. These corrupt police officers, high-ranking, repeat, high-ranking, learnt their trade via 'minor' cases. They were once Bobby's on the Beat. It is there that they learnt how to lie and cheat. It was not only one or two involved, it was something like 15 corrupt officers involved. All of them knew of the lies. Those police officers working in the same station but not directly involved in the case almost certainly knew of the corruption but chose to do nothing. Those that tried to do something were ostracised. Maybe that's the difference between UK and USA. The corrupt officers colluded in sending a 16-year old girl and her male friends to life imprisonment for something they had not done. They did this in the full knowledge that the 4 were not guilty. Quite amazingly, despite their serious crime, they now live free on full pension. Why?

Quote: When these things happen, Police Officers are more often than not held accountable. Ever heard of a gentleman named Rodney King? The Police Officers who were responsible in that case went to jail. Is that a cover up?

My response: In the UK this is not the case. The police get away with corrupt and illegal acts.

Of course I have heard of Rodney King. This event supports my point. They were only caught because of a chance recording of their illegal and corrupt actions. How many Rodney Kings have there been NOT caught on video? How many times has this happened and the police simply lie? It was not a single 'bad apple' here, it was a group of Police Officers. If we are to accept your view, surely at least one would be saying 'this is wrong'? But that was not the case. They all collluded in lies. Besides, if I remember rightly, they were found NOT GUILTY in the original trail. Why?

Quote: 'This is in your experience. Anecdotal evidence is in no way a basis to make such broad observations.'

I presented 8 points, not just this one. All experience is anectodal. My experience is another part of the jigsaw. In the same way you piece bits od evidence together, I have done the same. You argument is thus incorrect. My personal experience is relevant whether you care to admit it or not.

Quote: This is a matter of perception.

In what way is this a matter of perception? I am referring to where WRITTEN complaints have been made, witnesses to the police lies have been presented, but the police officer investigating the complaint decides 'there is no case to answer'. I have a question for you: why are the police so adverse to the idea of AN INDEPENDENT complaints procedure involving, not your colleagues, but lay persons from all walks of life?

Quote: Most police officers are honourable. Only in the sense that they honour their own kind.

Quote: Lawyers, huh? ;-) Agreed, but please be aware that there is a world of difference between a humble British solicitor and a rich American Lawyer.

Quote: Refer to my response to 3 regarding anecdotal evidence. For what it’s worth, if an Officer lied then you have a legitimate complaint against that Officer.

My response: Whether you like it or not, anectodal evidence is relevant. ALL the police officers lied. The invetigating police officer decided that they told the truth depiste independent witness evidence. From this anectodal evidence I have come to the conclusion, rightly or wrongly, that this sort of thing is routine and not extraordinary as you seem to believe.

Quote: Common sense is not common, and observations are subject to individual perception. Do people lie, yes! Will people lie to keep their jobs, yes! Are Cops people, yes! Don’t go hating an entire group of people for being human, otherwise you are being a hypocrite to single out this segment of the population. What on Earth would give justification for you to believe that Cops lie in any greater proportion than any other people, after all, common sense and objective observations would suggest otherwise.

With this, you support my case and admit that the police tell lies. I have already answered in part your latter statement. I single out this part of the population because there are far more serious repercussions when the police lie than in most other professions. This would be OK IF, and only IF, there were protections against wicked lies by people in power. The problem is, there are not. All professions require a certain elevated skill or skills. One of those skills, in the police, is the ability to tell the truth. But, the police do not tell the truth. They commit perjury or they subvert the course of justice. Face the truth.

Gee, sounds to me that is sucks to live in the UK and it is no wonder we left and formed our own country. I actually have relatives that live in the UK and they indicate it is not nearly as bad as you make it out. You are dwelling on a couple of instances and ASSUMING that it is the norm and happens all the time. If it were true, you would be an absolute idiot for living there and not moving elsewhere. Since I don't believe you are an absolute idiot, I will assume that it isn't quite as bad or rampant as you would have us to believe. IMO

Swings and roundabouts. There is much about living in the UK and being British which outways the problems of some police behaviour.

Q1: Why did the Chav (hoody etc) cross the road? To thump you in the face for no reason whatsoever.

Q2: Why did the Policeman cross the road? To stop and search you for absolutely no reason whatsoever (apart, perhaps, to show off in front of his pretty female colleague).

Citizens of the Uk will fully understand my two jokes.

Yeah right.
Must be much better with your inalienable right to be shot. lol.😛

I agree with znsho, btw.

Edit: if you never come into contact with the police, they are great, no worries - which probably means people like your friends who live in the UK I would guess???

Roxanne, you don't have to put on the red light
Those days are over
You don't have to sell your body to the night
Roxanne, you don't have to wear that dress tonight
Walk the streets for money
You don't care if it's wrong or if it's right

Roxanne, you don't have to put on the red light
Roxanne, you don't have to put on the red light
Put on the red light, put on the red light
Put on the red light, put on the red light
Put on the red light, oh

I loved you since I knew ya
I wouldn't talk down to ya
I have to tell you just how I feel
I won't share you with another boy
I know my mind is made up
So put away your make up
Told you once I won't tell you again it's a bad way

Roxanne, you don't have to put on the red light
Roxanne, you don't have to put on the red light
You don't have to put on the red light
Put on the red light, put on the red light

How many realise that the Drummer and Guitarist for the Police were once members of Curved Air and Soft Machine, respectively? Not sure about Sting's history before the Police. Anyone know?

The even funnier thing is I'll bet 98% of all people questioned probably could not tell you the names of the other two members of the band. But they will know Sting. Andy and Stu could walk down the street without being reconized these days, without disguises.

That's just normal - most famous bands' members wouldn't be recognised apart from the lead singer. U2 for example - everyone would recognise that Bonio geezer but who would recognise the others in the band? Most wouldn't, I suspect.

btw U2 sucks!

As a general rule I would agree with you, but the super bands, all of them are well known and recognized. Bands like The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who, Led Zeppelin, etc... But you are correct about U2, beyond Bono and The Edge, who else is recognizeable? I don't think U2 sucks either...could that be a Brit v. Irish thing? 😉
