Thanks Rooney! Like Beckham 8 years ago a petulent tantrum from our "star" player cost us the chance of the World Cup. Who knows what would have happened with 11 men including Crouch and Lennon on the field.

Overpaid professionals should behave better than that. If I did it in my job my career would be over, no matter how good I am.

I'm English, I want to win but it is time FIFA took a stand. Rooney should be banned ... for life!

not for life. but if there is one time not to lose your cool it is in the world cup. Weakness on his part. He let the team down, forcing a defensive stance from then on. That said they playes well and had a few chances to score. Crouch did well, I think...at least he was not lazy..!

All he ever wanted was a halting site to call his own, social benefits and a little respect... Then he became a footballer, and it all turned sour...

He's only 20, and everybody in England (including all his team mates and manager) were relying on him to win England the World Cup. How much pressure is that for a kid?

And how badly does that reflect on the talent of the rest of this team of supposed superstars?

It doesn't matter how old he is. If he cannot behave in a professional manner then he does not deserve the salary paid to him.

... and he certainly doesn't deserve the respect of the nation!

I've seen it now and my take on it is that A, it was an accident, and B it's over now so let's just forget it and move on.

Very badly, but it's what we had. All things considered, we did OK, last 8 in the world, again.

OK, the effect is much the same but I just don't think he meant it, which should make a huge difference to the reaction he gets. For a start he couldn't even see where he was standing, and there was no downward force in the action, it was a simple case of putting his foot down to stand on. Somebody mentioned that if they behaved like that in their job they'd be out, and I'm sure they know what they're talking about, but they wouldn't have to read about that and every other minor imperfection in the papers every day for six months. He'll suffer enough, but for my money most of it will be unfair.

Ban Rooney forever?

Ridiculous, he lost his head for 1 second and the sending off was more than suitable punishment.

Portugal obviously planned to get him sent off and it worked

In any event i think we actually played better after the sending off.
The problem was that we took 2 injured strikers, one Aresenal reserve team player and Crouch who is pretty new in the England set up.
Cant expect the midfield to score all the goals

What does his salary have to do with it? It's between him and his employer. If Manchester United decide he's become a liability because of this one thing then they will decide, not you. Whatever you say about him, his salary is none of your business.

We could have if they'd been close to their best. I feel sorry for Lampard, he gave it 100% but it just never happened.

Well maybe? And maybe the balls would have got a yellow card.

... but then pushing Ronaldo AND throwing a bottle at the Portugal bench was surely unprofessional!
