A MAN from Halewood who beat a dog so badly he fractured its spine was yesterday banned from keeping animals for five years.
Daniel Anthony Irvine, 19, of Stourvale Road, had previously pleaded guilty at the city’s magistrates court to causing unnecessary suffering to the dog, Missy, by subjecting it to violent physical trauma.
The court heard that in February the RSPCA was contacted by a member of the public about the eight-week-old cross breed spaniel/labrador dog that had been found lying on the floor and crying in pain at an address in Ash Grove, Wavertree.
The dog was removed and taken to a local vet where she was put to sleep due to the severity of her injuries.
A post mortem revealed the dog had suffered multiple rib and spinal fractures, along with evidence of previous trauma on three or four separate dates.
There had also been a recent bleeding injury to the brain and widespread bruising to the head and neck area.
The report concluded that the trauma was most likely to have been caused through the dog being beaten.
Irvine insisted the injuries were the result of an accident and the he did not intend to harm her.
Yesterday Liverpool magistrates banned him from keeping any animal for five years, imposed a community order and a 12-month supervision order and ordered him to pay £200 costs.
RSPCA inspector Claire Cain said: "This was a shocking case of cruelty against a young, vulnerable animal. This puppy’s injuries were so severe it had to be put to sleep to end its suffering. I can’t imagine the pain and distress it must have endured as a result of its horrific ordeal."

"Robert William Pickton was found guilty Sunday of second-degree murder in the deaths of six women who disappeared from Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. The 58-year-old pig farmer still faces murder charges in connection with 20 other women.
For some, the charges laid in this first trial raise as many questions as they answer.
Why wasn’t Pickton found guilty of first-degree murder, which the Crown was arguing for and which involves premeditation? Does the verdict suggest there was something amiss with the police work or the Crown's handling of the case? Should prosecutors pursue a costly, second trial?"

Honestly, that's just sick, twisted and horrible and I would have him locked up permanenty.
The 19 year old must have mental problems, or be on drugs or something to be behaving like that.

Like so many, Phlab, you seem to fail to understand the glaring interrelationship between frivolously mourning tiny, maudlin offenders and their housepet offences and shrugging off the truly evil among us as beyond our combined abilities to both deal with the results swiftly and soundly ...and seek out the underlying causes and address them with our social concern$ and dollar$ rather than building bread and circu$e$ and bemoaning the fate of any little dumb animal 😲
Go fret about Fifi to the cows lined up for slaughter or the pigs and chickens that never see daylight 🙄 ... and, btw, thanks for asking!!! 😀

I can't articulate the feelings that this article drums up in me, words could never adeqauely express it. I would be capable of ANYTHING momentarily if I happened to cross paths with this guy, I would almost certainly 'lose it'. Not that it makes a great deal of difference but my dog is also a labrador/springer spaniel cross as this dog was and it would break my heart if something like that happened to my dog.
If for example you saw some kid swing a cat by it's tail and you felt outraged enough to hurt the boy it's you they'd put in prison.

In the instance of the cat I would stop it and hand him over to the police
