Just raising the interesting phenomenon whereby we can become dismayed by Fifi getting kicked about...
... while elsewhere, multiple bloody murderers are written off as symptoms of our society's inadequacies 😀
When we hear about some horrible story, like some serial killer, it's tempting to look at what the victims did wrong. We like to be able to say to ourselves, "Well, if she hadn't been hitchhiking" or "opened her door to a stranger" or "chosen that profession" or whatever, she wouldn't be dead now. And while we don't exactly blame the victim, we look for ways to reassure ourselves that we would never be that foolish and so we wouldn't end up like the victims.
It's easier to get outraged over the abuse of an animal or a child not only because they don't have any real defense against those who mean to harm them but also because we know we're not going to be in the position of that animal or that child. We can look at those crimes squarely and freely express our feelings about it.
If anything, I think our lack of intense feelings about the murder of grown people shows that it horrifies us on such a deep level that we have to find a way to distance ourselves.

Unfortunately I have to go as I am playing in a match tonight and running late, I have to leave in 30 mins and in that time I have to shower and eat. So as much as I would like to stay I have to leave this post.
