If someone loses a game you immediately suspect a cheater if there ratings lower than yours. It might just be that you played into there style so stop accusing unless you have evidence. I've spoken to a person who has a rating of under 1200 who beat a person of over 1800 i would say there isn't even 10 people using chess engines.ðŸ˜
I think you're wrong. I strongly suspect two people who haven't been banned yet of cheating, and that's just from a very small number of people who I have played or whose games I have looked at for some reason.
Let's see how many people get 3b'ed in the next few months, I bet it's more than ten by Christmas. (*)
(*) ok, a rather liberally definition of "next few months"
Not another thread repeating all that has gone before.

There must be more threads on cheating than anything else. Get a life, enjoy your chess and when someone starts making computer moves report them.
and while we are at it if a 1200 player beats you, he is not likely to be cheating, just lucky (or perhaps you played crap). Cheats have high ratings not low ones and don't tend to lose (many) games.
Originally posted by Dragon FireMaybe the reason that the same old points get repeated again and again is because lots of players worry about the problem.

I put quite a lot of effort into my games (though not as much as before I found out a couple of my opponents were using engines) and it annoys the snot out of me when I discover that I've been playing Fritz / Crafty or whatever. I joined this site to play people, not engines. I enjoy the different ways that people play and the fact that they will sometimes make mistakes or evaluate the position differently to me.
I've played a few games on playchess.com recently, and it seems that cheaters are getting kicked off that site quite regularly. I'm guessing that they have some sort of automatic game checking running behind the scenes, and I think something similar would be hugely beneficial to this site.
Originally posted by Fat LadyWhen playing on Playchess.com, you have to use the Chessbase interface. Engine users are caught all the time for the simple reason that the site automatically detects when someone runs a Chessbase engine (such as Fritz, Shredder, Junior, Hiarcs, etc) because it has to go through their interface! Therefore it's ridiculously easy for the site to catch hundreds of stupid cheats every day.

Btw, they are not kicked off the site. What happens is that their rating is reset to zero. Often when I'm playing on the site I've noticed that the same person is caught and had their rating reset but keeps on cheating and is caught again and again.
So Playchess.com is very efficient at catching the stupid cheats who try to run a Chessbase engine from the same computer on which they are making their moves. I doubt that they catch many of the more sophisticated cheats. Many players on that site have boasted about how they blatantly used engines for years and built up massive ratings without being detected. For instance they make their moves on one computer (eg. their desktop PC) and have their engine running on a second computer (eg. their laptop).
The site probably also runs selective checks for engine matches. But as long as they make the occasional human move and throw in a few blunders, the site is unlikely to catch them.
