A: Chris and Donna have got divorced after 25 years.

B: Divorced? Well, then. They were never truly in love.

    A: Oh yeah?

B: If they WERE ever truly in love, then they wouldn't be divorced now.

A: Things changed between them in the last year or two.

    B: I don't care.

A: They were the happiest couple I knew for 23 years, totally in love.

B: Well, never mind that. They never knew what it was to be in love.

A: How can you make that claim?

B: Because I am STILL in love with my spouse.

I suspect Chris and Donna’s story is a lie created by either Chris or Donna, in order for one of them to score cheap internet points and troll couples who are still happily married.

I also suspect that Chris and Donna never even knew each other in the first place.

Divorces are like going through a death in the family, I went through one, and they are painful. The difference between a divorce and death is the one gone is still here.

Come on, KellyJay, you know full well that this thread is not really about divorce.

I'm sorry the word 'divorced' made me think it had something to do with divorce. If love and marriage are things that we try on like we do a bit of clothing, it has nothing to do with love. If it is about love, love is more than a feeling; it is an act of will, "will you take this..." it is a commitment entered into for life; scripturally, cheating is the only acceptable reason for divorce; otherwise,, we made vows.

    Nope.

This thread isn't about marriage, divorce, cheating or love.

    Surely you realize?

In the allegory, I am A and you are B.

Are you claiming that you didn’t realise it was an allegory?

Imperfect as it may be, it certainly supersedes KellyJay's attempted allegory for lost faith:

If you and I were friends who lived next to one another 20 years ago, and today I deny I ever knew you 20 years ago, as a true statement! Would I be telling the truth?

...which, quite honestly, sounds a bit like it was written by someone who simply hadn't thought about faith enough and couldn't wrap his head around what it means to have lost it.

Thoughts, no not thoughts, you have something specific in mind that has nothing to do with thoughts! What comes to mind while reading your post are thoughts. You have specifics in mind you are not looking where the text leads, instead you want a specific conversation!
