I have never had a bitter experience with hallucinogenics in any form, but i know people who have. Environment and prior state of mind have a profound influence on whether you have a 'good trip' or a 'bad trip'.
Originally posted by kd2aczpersonally i have never had a bad experience, 'bad trip'. What hallucinogenics do is they create a heightened sense of awareness, thus colours become ultra vivid, ultra contrasted, sometimes merging into an unreal cartoon like world. Couple this with what a termed trails, like the effect that you can apply on a mouse pointer and imagine that when you look to the stars multiplied thousands of times. What happens is that patterns are suggested to the mind and the mind has no way to inhibit the information, thus a stone path may start to flow like a river, the bark on a tree take on facial proportions. I often found myself giggling uncontrollably at some silly thing, or whispering because sound carried so loudly, when in reality , it was simply normal, but had become heightened.

Now try to imagine if all the information coming at you is threatening, horrible faces emerge from what is just a normal stone wall, the sound of an overhead aircraft becomes threatening due to a feeling of paranoia and you can understand what a person who is having a bad experience due to hallucinogenics must feel like.

A long time ago I took mescaline and I saw these onions in my refrigerator that had been left inside too long and were growing shoots out of it. I felt an overwhelming love of life and those onions in particular, growing in spite of really harsh conditions inside my fridge! I wasn't feeling god or anything like that, just feeling the love of life here on earth.
That's cause there is no god. It's just a handy word when trying to communicate with indoctrinated people ..

You seem not a little contentious today FMF, never the less, the extract from wikipedia was merely reproduced to demonstrate that Psilocybin has a valid medical use. That God has created and has given the earth to the sons of mankind, for their use and enjoyment, must be recognised.
Christian are counselled to remain sound in mind at all times, t ...[text shortened]... t it can be construed as Pharmakeia, in the sense of it being induced to alter ones perceptions.

My "bad trips" , when endured and understood have often turned into some of the most rewarding and ultimately "good trips" for me.
