    So if someone offered their life in exchange for their enemies you would see that as love? By the way have you ever heard of Jim Elliot?

    One offering one's life in exchange for the life of one's enemy is a rare bird. How many persons as such do you know?

    I have heard of Jim Elliot, the Christian missionary. I believe he did not offer his life in exchange for the life of his enemy, methinks he was simply killed on duty.
    Have you ever heard of Thich Quang Duc?

    That being said, would you be so kind to reply my question to you? It it noted on my first post on page 17 of this thread;

    If someone were to give their life for their enemy would you consider it love? Yes or No?

    Do you know what Jim Elliot's wife did to the people that killed her husband after her husband was murdered?

    I personally would probably find it hard to love an enemy and I think it's only possible if I have the love of God in my heart, because it is unconditional.

    Edit: If someone were to give their life for their enemy would you consider it love? Yes or No?

    My fair answer is:
    Yes; No; No both; No neither;
    What’s going on with the way your mind evaluates, dj2becker? What is this obsession with Yes or No? In your dualist worldview you see solely dilemmas. In my worldview, we use catuskoti. Anyway…

    Lieutenant Friedrich Lengfeld wanted to save the life of a wounded, laying down in a minefield US soldier, and in fact died trying to save him;
    Lieutenant Franz Stigler escorted a heavily wounded B-17 bomber to the safety, refusing to follow his orders to shoot it down and thus kill unable to defend themselves, panicked Americans;
    Erwin Rommel refused to follow Hitler’s orders and thus did not execute his Jewish POWs;
    Wilhelm Hosenfeld was risking his life in order to save Jewish escapees;

    All the above, are not examples of love. They are examples of deep compassion and magnificent sense of honor.
    And I talked about real and fearsome soldiers, men of the most disgusting war machine of the world; for, even in the deepest darkness, one can find good people with a deep sense of the suffering of their fellow human beings.

    However, I am unable to find a single person who sacrificed his life out of agape for his enemy😵

    I feel deep sympathy for all the Quechua people, and surely for the Huaorani in particular.
    I cannot feel the slightest glimmer of sympathy for a missionary –any missionary regardless of his religion– eager to mess big time with people that all they want is to keep their homeland and choose free the way they want to live. Jim Elliot, killed on duty, and his wife Elizabeth, both of them hardcore missionaries, are personages that do not impress me at all.
    And Elizabeth did not express love; she simply made clear she means business, I reckon.

    You would probably find it impossible to love an enemy the way Jesus loved; his unconditional agape was not grounded on blind beliefs but in Deep Knowledge. Jesus was not a believer. Instead, he Knew. Too advanced.

    You would probably find it impossible to love an enemy the way Jesus loved. If you are a Christian, it seems to me the sole reason is a deep ignorance of your personage, and a deep lack of trust and faith.
    First kill your ego, find Who Are You and become the master of your mind. Meditate and evaluate your direct knowledge.
    Then cultivate faith in Jesus, and meditate. Evaluate your direct knowledge.
    Then cultivate trust in Jesus, and meditate. Evaluate your direct knowledge.
    Serve wholeheartedly the persons you love and be prepared to die for them; cultivate deep compassion for all the sentient beings; evaluate your direct knowledge. When you are there, the first step is done.
