pcaspian, I think he was directing the question at me, rather than you. However, as I have not called for banning anyone (and I don't recall seeing you do so either), the question is no more than a flame--one that will flicker a moment, and then disappear.

Like it or not, pcaspian, I'm adding you to the list of Christians at RHP that have impressed me. Your candor and honesty are refreshing, however much I continue to disagree with you.
I appreciate the compliment Wule, although I am sure if you get to know Darfius better you may change your opinion about him too. I even come to like a few athiests on this site that I previously had no time for. I like many athiests (militant I dare say) outside of these forums and would hardly be surprised if I like many athiests at RHP in real life too.
I bet if you put us all in one big room, we'd behave alot better 😉
EDIT: Ok, I change my mind about Nemesio and no1Marauder ! I'm sure I wouldn't like them 😉
Originally posted by NemesioI will confess that I have helped create this confusion by listing Nemesio among the Christians that have impressed me.

What you are saying is true, BBarr is not a Christian, however Nemesio and Kirksey claim to be such.
I've made no such claim, and you know it.
I did so with a sense of irony that it seems all but bbarr missed, and to emphasize the point that Nemesio's endless posts show more that is in the spirit of true Christianity than do most of the self-professed xtians on this site.
As for me, I no longer claim to be a Christian: I am somewhere between a lapsed Catholic and an agnostic. I am also an ex-evangelical, and I deal with Christians in a professional context of faith and knowledge (where I am one of the alleged purveyors of knowledge) on a daily basis. My views on Christianity are frequently subjected to testing by adherents of the faith, and not found wanting by them (except for my unbelief). From the little I know, Nemesio could make a similar claim upon more secure grounds than I, and he certainly contributes more of such substance to these forums.
Nevertheless, in their superior wisdom and knowledge, Darfius and a few of his allies have repeatedly informed me (and Nemesio) that "we know not of what we speak (type)." Fine. they can hold their opinions, but after they express it, I'd be pleased to see it supported with some data, otherwise I will do my best to persecute (prosecute) them.

That pcaspian has called for banning certain folks is news to me, but I'm not disputing it. I stated olny that I hadn't noticed such calls.

I was unaware that he was leaving the site. When did he say this?
Of course, he starting holding his breath and turning blue back in September when he wanted me, Bbarr, Royalchicken and others banned. Because he did't get his way, he's leaving. So much for "Mr. Irespecteveryone'sbeliefs".

The fact that you only call for the banning of the more outspoken ones who disagree with you doesn't change the fact or make you less of a hypocrite for stating you "respect other's beliefs" when you are most interested in silencing them.
If there were an emoticon for 'sigh' I'd love to use it right now.
no1, I simply tyre of wasting time responding to you when I feel you have no interest in what I have to say anyway. Please don't ask me to respond to your questions if they serve no informative purpose to you.
For the record, I actually approved a ban of Ivan (eventhough I knew exactly where he was coming from) as did I approve a ban for BBarr and RC for their roles in instigating the Haikus. I believe Crib's posts were meak and much less vulgar that any of those Haikus. When however your ranking is in the top 5 in RHP, I don't think you need worry too much about receiving bans, if not for cheating.
I also did not decide to leave RHP because 'person A' wasn't banned, I simply considered the standard of the forums to have dropped substantially after the re-shuffle in moderation after the Crib's debacle.
As my primary reason for frequenting RHP shifted from playing chess to using the forums, I didn't see a reason to re-subscribe purely for playing chess.
What I think you don't take into account is that everytime you and Nemesio post in a thread I am debating, I have to take time to reply to you. It simply isn't worth my time anymore.

Again no1. I decided to remain until my subscription expired. I was under the impression that it would expire in dec (when I joined), but later found out I only subscribed in April. I decided to make the most of my remaining time and see how much I could improve my rankings and you may notice a visible improvement from Oct 20th 2004 onwards, however subsequent timeouts killed my rankings again. During that time I was encouraged to stay and see how the new RHP 'auto moderation' worked out, but I did not become a great fan of it and chose to continue in my decision not to re-subscribe.
Don't jump to conclusions.

Five or ten years ago Trinity Broadcasting TV sometimes hosted a preacher who was known for carrying a cross for long distances. It was a big wooden cross with a little wheel or two at the base. He would sling the crossbar over his shoulder and pull this cross on the shoulders of roads both in the United States and in other countries. Originally posted by pcaspianWe discussed this whole matter back in September. When I say "ban" I am referring to the permanent bans you wanted given to various members, not a short forum ban like Ivanhoe received for his "head explosion". You campaigned for such bans and when they were not forthcoming, announced you intended to leave. That is a matter of history, although as I believe that thread was in the Forum Issues forum it is forever gone. Your idea of "forum moderation" as always primarily focused on limiting what people who don't share your views can say; most people did not find those haikus offensive and as they were in a thread concerning Norma McGreevey they were on-topic, if irreverent. They were also a sarcastic counterpoint to her ridiculous poetry which included fetuses being pushed on swings in Heaven or some such rubbish.

You mean Ivan will only have 3 recs ?
(kidding Ivan, I seldom rec your posts 😉 )
Please let me know if you'll allow me to follow through on this gesture of good will. Seriously.
Thank you for the offer, the good will appreciated, but I've already promised the wife I'd spend more time with her and the child. Besides it gets dark at 10pm in London during summer. Need to spend that time working on my bleak complexion 🙂
cheers

What the f-ck does all this have to do with the most impressive Christian you have ever met? These personal rivalries are extremely petty and ridiculous.
No1, you need to lay off pcaspian as this is not a f-cking courtroom.
Ivanhoe is already taking a timeout, so that's a good thing.
He's a hypocrite. She's a hypocrite. They're all hypocrites. Who gives a flying f-ck? Let it go everyone and let's move on. It's okay to disagree and to argue but when these arguments reach a fever pitch, we all need to step back and check ourselves.
Peace.
