@kellyjay saidI didn't ask you about the beliefs themselves and whether or not you agreed with them. I ask you simply to accept that is what 'I' believed.
I never claimed that you didn’t believe in them I spoke about the beliefs themselves, you justified lying about what I believed.
So again, 'I believe' in an eternal universe. I don't believe in a mindless caused universe. Keep that in mind in future conversations, and I will keep in mind you don't believe God sits on a white fluffy cloud.
@ghost-of-a-duke saidI have always accepted you believe what you tell me you believe that was never a concern of mine. Now I question you.

@kellyjay saidIf that were the case, why did you state that I believed in a mindless caused universe? How is that accepting what I actually believe when I have told you many times I don't believe in a caused universe?
I have always accepted you believe what you tell me you believe that was never a concern of mine. Now I question you.
Seriously, can you please absorb that?
@ghost-of-a-duke saidAre you an Atheist?

@ghost-of-a-duke saidSo mindlessness is directing the materialistic universe no God, just what?
Yes. Haven't you known that for 8 years?
@kellyjay saidI'll tell you when I find out.
So mindlessness is directing the materialistic universe no God, just what?
@kellyjay saidThere is no directive. There is expansion, in the most rudimentary sense a ‘direction’ away from a theoretical singularity, but no goal and no plan. Directives, plans, and goals are figments of human imagination.

@kellyjay saidI'll give you a list. Perhaps print it off and put on your fridge to remind you what I do an do not believe:
Are you an Atheist?
1. I am and have always been an atheist. I do not believe in your God or any other.
2. I believe gods are human constructions to try and explain the unexplainable and to give hope and comfort in the face of death and mortality.
3. I am not anti-religion, in the sense that I can see how religion provides emotional support for a lot of people. I do though think religion is holding us back as a species as when people think they have the answer they stop searching for the actual answer.
4. I do not think I have all the answers and am more than happy to say 'I don't know' to some of the bigger questions about the universe and how exactly we got here.
5. Just because I may not have the answer doesn't therefore mean that your answer is correct. Far from it.
6. I believe the universe has always existed in one form or another. I don't believe the universe came into existence with a big bang. (But rather there has been an endless series of big bangs and big crunches where the universe continually expands and contracts).
7. I don't necessarily believe there is a purpose to the universe.
8. Even so, I do believe life is a precious thing (due to it's rarity) and that we make our own purpose as we transit through it.
9. We were not created, we evolved as a species and quite easily might not have made it as far as we have.
10. Life is prolific throughout the universe though far enough apart that it is unlikely we will ever discover it (well, not in my lifetime at least).
11. Our planet is billions of years old. This is self evident and as close to a fact as you can get.
@ghost-of-a-duke saidWell I guess it seems you want it both ways, odd you were complaining about scientific certainties and then you are playing it loose with your chosen worldview’s ramifications. I guess if you’re not willing to own up to what you claim is true there no point reasoning with someone who doesn’t own any reason for their views.
I'll tell you when I find out.
@kellyjay saidThere is no mind operating in chemical reactions or the subatomic events studied in physics or the stellar events studied in astronomy. No mind directs chromosomes to duplicate, or, occasionally, to mutate. No mind directs Halley’s Comet to return.
Mindlessness
@ghost-of-a-duke said8 and 10 are inconsistent. Life is rare, or prolific, but not both.

@ghost-of-a-duke saidThat is all between your ears, not reality, and reality is the thing I was speaking about. You can believe anything you want, and as soon as you pick a side on any topic there are either reasons that you have or not, not having reasons only means what you believe is an unreasonable position because it lacks reasons. You reject God then you reject mindlessness throughout the whole process in a material world, nothing like handing your hat on nothing specific you don't have to defend anything.

I have asked you questions and they have been left unanswered, instead you have droned on and on about your beliefs, uh, okay, how about defending them, with reasons that can stand up to questions?
@moonbus saidThere is no meaning in the reductionist view of ink and paper looking only at the chemical makeup alone, but meaning transcends the material world, minds can make matter do things, and mean things. If you didn't know or understand Morse code the dots and dashes would only be dots and dashes, if you have no clue about smoke signals, instructions could pass right before your eyes and you would be oblivious. The arrangement of the matter in the material world can give meaning that would never be found if all you were looking at was the material, you are willfully blind.
