despite my criticisms of beckham earlier, im going to have to admit he did well when he came on, some very nice touches and brilliant ball to set rooney up. bit late in the day to be playing well for england though.

The thing that gets my goat is that he will go in the record books as having the most out field caps,i personally think he has gained the opportunity because of his massive public image !!
I dont think he would of gained those caps through his footballing skills ,and i think pressure is put on managers to play him!!!,and as you quite rightly say,Beckham will never captain England to a world cup victory ...

You seriously think the FA is putting pressure on Capello to play Beckham?? And even if that is the case, you seriously think a man like Capello would allow that to happen??

YES!!!and YES again , i know it sounds far fetched ,but the FA has a huge new stadium to pay for and other things as well and have to fill it with bums on seats . It would,nt bother Cappello as he only brings him on for a few minutes any way [unless its a friendly] if you were getting paid in the millions would you say no to the FA about Beckham ?😴😴😴

That's the great thing about irrational prejudices.

The ability to disregard fact after fact after fact.

Beckham has started 99 out of 108 appearences.

I like the idea that somehow by playing Beckham the FA are going to recoup a massive amount of money to pay for Wembley.

'Son, do you want to go to the England game at Wembley?'
'Is Beckham playing?'
'No, he's not in the squad'
'I don't want to go then'!!!!

If those same fathers took their kids because Beckham is playing and added -say 10,000 to the gate at a average of say £50 thats £500,000 , quite a lot of money !!! makes sense to me , Beckham is more brand than substance ,Bobby moore was a 90 minute man , Beckham said " i am glad to be above bobby moore "
That shows the arrogance of the man to me...he will never be above bobby moore !!!!

The ability to disregard fact after fact after fact .Hmm!
Bobby moore had 108 caps for England ,he started every game and was never taken off in any game and played 9780 minutes..FACT!!
Beckham started 99 games and was a sub 9 times and was taken off 43 times , he played 8,088 minutes, FACT...that means he would of played18.8 fewer games than Bobby moore FACT !!!
Taken off 43 times and came on as a sub 9 times, thats 52 non full games !!!!! out of 108 caps !!!

I would have thought it would be normal for a midfielder to be substituted more than a centre half. I also expect Beckham ran more over his minutes on the pitch than Moore did.

Having said that, never being subbed is phenomenal and Moore was obviously a fantastic player. But Beckham now holds the record.

Discussion of their relevant merits is a different topic altogether.
