Originally posted by no1marauderYou can't tell me 2 first round picks mean nothing. That could potentially be 2 more Lebron's or Chris Paul's. So 2 first round picks are not nothing. I'll agree that player wise they didn't take any major hits to get Gasol even though they gave up Javaris Crittendon who is a good prospect. But I wouldn't be so crazy as to say they gave up virtually NOTHING. And they didn't need Crittendon with Fisher and Farmar already in the lineup. Micheal Beasley of Kansas State just declared that he'll go into the draft and he's expected to be a top pick. I think he would be a great pick for Memphis cause that guy is a beast. And from what I've seen from several analysts they are expecting Memphis to be alot better team because of this deal. So it was a win-win situation for both teams. Pau wasn't doing anything in Memphis so they traded him to possibly bring in players who could change the direction of the organization.

Their chances of getting any player near the equal of Gasol with those picks is slim. Crittenton ain't jack and he was a mid 1st round selection.
Originally posted by no1marauderI know it ain't related to basketball, but I do believe Tom Brady was a 6th round draft pick and look where he is. One of football's current greatest QB's. So you cannot say a draft pick means nothing, ESPECIALLY when it is 2 first rounders. Late first round or not, those still have the possibility of being great basketball players.

Originally posted by no1marauderOh and 2 of the Spurs best players were drafted in the first and second rounds. Manu Ginobili went 57th in the 99 draft, and Tony Parker went 28th in the 01 draft. So don't give me this bull that 2 late first rounders can't change an entire organization.

Originally posted by no1marauderAnd I can name some more, Carlos Boozer went 35th overall to the Cavs in 02, Josh Howard 29th overall to Dallas in 03, Derek Fisher 24th overall to the Lakers in 96, GILBERT ARENAS 31st overall to Golden State in 02, Tayshaun Prince 23rd overall to Detroit in 02. All of these seem to be PRETTY KEY PLAYERS to each of their teams respectively.

Answer: Never.
Originally posted by no1marauderOh so Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili have nothing to do with the Spurs success? I believe they helped change that organization. Yes it STARTED with Tim Duncan, but he is not the ONLY ONE and you cannot tell me they would be as good without both Parker and Ginobili.

YOUR claim was that the two late first round draft choices could "change the direction of the organization".
I asked when that had ever occurred in the past.
You haven't answered but we both know the answer.
Answer these two questions:
1) What position was Tim Duncan drafted?;
2) Did the addition of Parker and Manu "change the direction" of the Spurs' organization?
Originally posted by no1marauderAnd I believe Fisher played AN IMPORTANT PART OF THE LAKERS CHAMPIONSHIP YEARS, without him they wouldn't have won 3 titles in a row. I don't think Detroit would have won the title in 2004 WITHOUT TEYSHAUN PRINCE, and while he hasn't won any championships or even plays for GoldenState anymore, I believe GILBERT ARENAS plays an important part on the Wizards.

Originally posted by no1marauderAnd first off let's get this straight, I NEVER said the Grizzlies would be a better team. I said they have the key elements to build a good if not great team. 2 FIRST ROUND draft picks is quite a bit to give up, regardless of where in the order they come. Do I think Memphis was stupid for getting rid of Gasol, yes and no but I think they at least got something out of him. You seem to think that they got nothing and have given no basis for you claim whereas I have listed SEVERAL GREAT players who have come in the first and second rounds of the drafts in the past 10 years. Does that mean the Grizzlies will get as good of players as any of these, NO. I said they have the possibility too.
