Could some explain to me why he resigned as white?
Originally posted by flexmoreYeah definately Qd4 ... king has to go down as up leads to Qb4 mate. Next move would probably bring the rook across +. And from there it leads to ugliness... Will ask him when he moves in our game...
he doesnt take the bishop becos Qd4 mate .. but he could take the rook ...
woops - i messed up ....
i do not know ... why did he resign ?
i bet it starts with Qd4

The alternative is Bb7, but that simply loses a piece after Qb4+.
29. Rxc3 Qd4+ 30. Kb3 Rb8+ 31. Qb6 Rxb6 32. axb6 Qb4+ 33. Kc2 Qxb6 (ofcourse ... Qa4+ 34. Rb3 Qxa6 leads to a draw, but that's not very difficult to see).
I spent several hours analyzing this position, but it is completely lost. Therefore I resigned.
Very well played by awrightus. I wish him good luck in the next round.

Only one remark / question.
A 2200+ player told me that high ranked players also can make mistakes or have a bad day and missing moves, so why not play on untill after the possible draw move?
Who knows, he might not have seen it and you had a draw or more ....
(Just my thoughts.)
