Your just jealous because you have never played Assassins Creed.
It's certainly sweet, and it surely will compete in my heart with GTA IV when it is released... but nothing compares to pacman, frogger, adventure, pitfall, space invaders, missile command, and all those Atari wonders that with really few Kbs and even less pixels sent our imagination flying.

Assassin's Creed is great for a while and then it gets so repetitive - it's definitely not the best game ever made
PLATFORMER - Super Mario Galaxy
STRATEGY - Rome - Total War
FPS - Call of Duty 4
SPORTS - Pro Evolution Soccer 6
RETRO - Tetris
ACTION - POP - The Two Thrones
RACING - ______ (someone fill that one - I can't choose)
I hope these list covers the best of each genre that I can think of - feel free to add to it - it's late , I know there's more genres that this

Now it is debatable about your stratagy idea. I think Age of Empires is better. But total war is good. Never played Tetris or The Two Thrones.

What makes a game great? That it sets a new standard from that which followed before it?
That it challenges the mind as well as the reflexes? That it is amusing and clever? That it
requires the hand-eye coordination of a ninja?
In their own ways, the games Pac-Man, Doom, Myth, and Zelda were all ground breaking; they
raised the bar over the other games contemporary to them. If you include non-action games,
then the King's/Space Quest series comprised sensationally conceived games for the early
80s, and the LucasArts engine for the first two Monkey Island games as well as the Indiana Jones
games made for a splendid gaming experience. I am hard-pressed to think of a game in or
after the mid-90s that had a balance of playfulness and puzzle-solving than the games in years
before that.
