@liljo saidNo, I think the reaction would be the same if Russia annexed Belarus.
OK. I went back and, although at times it made me sick, read this whole thread. I see so much blame about why this happened being hurled by the usual people. What I don't see is why Ukraine is even important. So I did a little research and found:
1. Ukraine owns the second largest gas reserves in Europe.
2. Ukraine has the second largest supply of natural gas in the world. ...[text shortened]... ld be puke. Biden, nor anyone else in power, gives a hoot about the welfare of the Ukrainian people.
This history of NATO and Russia extends long before Ukraine broke away from the USSR. I agree Ukrainian resources are definitely of interest, but the political and historical significance is far more important to Russia. This isn't like when NATO attacked Libya. If Belarus ever attempts to join NATO, Russia will probably invade them as well.
You are correct that the welfare of Ukrainians are likely nothing more than an afterthought at best.
@shavixmir saidWe have to defend our Baltic allies even if it means WW3.
Uh… yeah… fear of triggering WW3…
But the fact that our giant ships would be defenseless in those constrained waterways makes sense.
@no1marauder saidStack large NATO armies in Romania, the Baltics and Poland.
What exactly do you propose?
Please be specific.
IDK what to do with Turkey.
I’d recommend the USN and Marines poke around Siberia but they’ll be busy with China.
@AThousandYoung
The commanders of those big ships would know that full well so would engage from a distance.
@athousandyoung said"Large NATO armies." Translates to "large NATO armies, 80% of which are United States".

We can count on France to provide insults; England to support France's insults; Germany to completely support the US support; and so forth, and so on.
@mott-the-hoople saidNot very specific except for your wish to overthrow the US Constitution and the clearly expressed wishes of the American people and install Putin's favorite candidate as a quasi dictator.

I propose kicking biden out and putting the rightly elected president in control. He had putin under control. Other than that, the UN should do what they are supposed to do and stop this. If not then do away with it. We have allowed politicians to ruin everything such as the US and UK not keeping their word on protecting Ukraine for giving up their nukes. The US has done nothing that will hurt putin so far.
Not exactly a punishment for Russian aggression.
@no1marauder saidit takes an idiot not to see who putins puppet is.

I notice you failed to state what you think the plan of action should be. And dominion is not the "American people".

Trump was praised by Putin for pulling out of Syria after supporting rebel forces who the Russians were fighting against.
Trump did exactly what Putin wanted in that war. Trump would do the same for for Russia now.
@mott-the-hoople saidLike a president who sides with Putin over his own country's intelligence in front of the world on live TV?

@Mott-The-Hoople
Sounds a LOT like you LOVE Putin and I bet you hope he takes over the US, Canada, Mexico and all of South America.
@sonhouse saidThere isn’t enough distance in the Baltic to do that.

@liljo saidNot at all. The Spanish-Italian Amphibious Battlegroup can reinforce Romania, etc.

@athousandyoung saidUh, I admire your gung-ho attitude in this, but starting WW3 is not really an option.
We have to defend our Baltic allies even if it means WW3.

It’s also the reason Russia won’t attack the Baltic states (they’re NATO) and won’t invade EU countries.
Because doing so automatically triggers WW3.
It’s also the reason NATO didn’t want Ukraine to join them.
It’s also the reason wars are fought by proxy and that Taiwan is π©ing itself.

@vivify saidI dunno. Maybe with a slight difference. The Keystone Pipeline would be open, and America wouldn’t be funding the Russian military by paying high priced Russian oil.
Quite true.

Trump would use this situation as leveredge to get NATO members to pay their share. That’s for sure. To the howls of dismay by All Things Left, no doubt.
I’m sure I will be under Keyboard Commando attack for this! π oh no! It’s an invasion! π³
