As a certified old fart on SS, with the the way Trump is destroying government agencies, I get more distressed every month wondering if this will be the month I get no check when that check is literally what keeps us from living in the streets.
Senior citizens should not have to live like this because SS is OUR money bought and paid for by 60 years of paying into SS tax.
If we get screwed over by what we thought was a reliable source of income I can't imagine how many millions of us will be literally out in the streets with nowhere to go.
This so called 'beautiful bill' is going to pull 880 BILLION from Medicaid, 300 BILLION from Snap, like food stamps, child care and the like and then increasing the national debt by 4 TRILLION dollars and they KNOW there will be deficit spending which means SS will be cut by a half TRILLION when they should not be able to do that since it is OUR money and so I wait getting more and more depressed about my future and BTW my mom and grandma both lived to 100+ and I may life that long or close so I literally don't know what to do if we get cut from SS, wife and I both in the streets.
@sonhouse saidYou are chicken little. You think Trump wants one thing, and we think he wants another. One of us is wrong.

I do question your logic in having supported giving about $700B to College graduates to pay off their tuitions, but you are upset about the govt 'Pulling 880B from Medicaid" ??
Why not suggest that we get all that money back and use it to 'save' Medicaid?
How do you justify these two totally different positions??
(Please don't spoil your post by mentioning president Trump)
He is doing his best. Today he sends a Bill to the Congress to cut $9.4B ( almost $1T). from USAID and from NPR and PBS. This is all about Musk and his work with DOGE. DOGE, Sonhouse.
Please give us a positive comment on money he is saving, Musk's $1T goal is almost accomplished. What amazing service Musk is to the American People.
No more non-existent receivers of SS money.
@sh76 saidThey've unequivocally started removing services from the system. Maybe administration seems like the boring part, but these folks being fired were the ones preventing the fraudsters from taking over.
You started a thread to complain about something that has never even been threatened?
IF (and it's a big IF), social security is ever reformed, it will be phased in over decades. People already on SS won't be affected.
Unfortunately, it seems that nobody has the guts to reform SS anyway...

Michael Ryan, a finance expert and the founder of MichaelRyanMoney.com, told Newsweek: "You know the saying 'actions speak louder than words?' Well, Trump's crew is putting on the biggest magic show in Washington. They're waving one hand, saying 'we'll never touch your Social Security,' while the other hand is quietly dismantling the whole thing, piece by piece.
@sh76 saidThese haywire statements of Sonhouse really dilute his posts. He knows what he is saying, but says it, unfounded, anyway. So, his posts fizzle and one can hardly read to the end. I have told him this 50 tiomes, I have said 'you are writing to yourself'.

@Cliff-Mashburn saidLol why would the trump admin say they were cutting SS benefits?
@sonhouse
Nothing is going to happen to your SS check, you are worrying over notheing. Only politicians claiming SS is in danger are the Dems because fear mongering is all they have.
NOBODY in the Trump admin has said anything about reducing your SS.
They're just doing it.
@wildgrass saidSo is Wgrass saying that SS will be eradicated?? Or dismantled, whatever that means, what are all you libs saying? Are you of the Snhouse School?

@AverageJoe1 saidNo, it's you who used that word. No need to be overdramatic, but social security offices are being closed down. That's reality.

@sonhouse saidMedicaid and likely Medicare are targeted. Not so much SS payments at the moment. 😆

@wildgrass saidYes, there are layoffs and closures in the SS offices. Which will affect people newly applying for benefits. 😆
No, it's you who used that word. No need to be overdramatic, but social security offices are being closed down. That's reality.
@wildgrass saidI don't know what that means, and as usual, not going to research it. If they are being shut down, could it be that they are not needed, a waste of money.
No, it's you who used that word. No need to be overdramatic, but social security offices are being closed down. That's reality.
We had an argument recently where it was determined that DOGE was getting rid of people that they did not need in the government jobs.....3 people could do the work that 5 people were doing, so they fired 2 people. Remember, ? You libs were mad at Musk/Trump firing people who needed money to live on or some such. Boy, that line of reasoning sank pretty fast.
Why did none of you explain how a Living wage can be created, where 2 men are working the same job, one is single, one has 4 kids, ..... how would you libs formulate that ever-lovin pesky LIVING wage.
I ask many questions which go unanswered. Ask me a question.
