Anthony Bourdain is blaming liberals like himself as the reason Donald Trump won the 2016 election.

In an interview with Reason magazine published Thursday, the host of the CNN culinary travel show Parts Unknown, slammed the “self-congratulatory” and “privileged left” for their disdain for working-class Americans.

“The utter contempt with which privileged Eastern liberals such as myself discuss red-state, gun-country, working-class America as ridiculous and morons and rubes is largely responsible for the upswell of rage and contempt and desire to pull down the temple that we’re seeing now,” Bourdain said.

He continued, “I’ve spent a lot of time in gun-country, God-fearing America. There are a hell of a lot of nice people out there, who are doing what everyone else in this world is trying to do: the best they can to get by, and take care of themselves and the people they love.”

The 60-year-old chef went on to criticize fellow liberals for denying conservatives “their basic humanity and legitimacy of their views” and “mock them at every turn, and treat them with contempt.”

Bourdain went on to say these issues aren’t specific to the United States. He says Trump’s election is part of a “global trend” towards nationalism “that should be of concern to everyone.”

“If you look around the world (in the Philippines, in England), the rise of nationalism, the fear of the Other. When people are afraid and feel that their government has failed them they do things that seem completely mad and unreasonable to those of who are perhaps under less pressure,” he said.

Bourdain also slammed HBO political talk show host Bill Maher as “the worst of the smug, self-congratulatory left” after being asked about an appearance on Real Time with Bill Maher several years ago.

“Not a show I plan to do again. He’s a classic example of the smirking, contemptuous, privileged guy who lives in a bubble,” Bourdain told the outlet. “And he is in no way looking to reach outside, or even look outside, of that bubble, in an empathetic way.

Working class folk are getting killed with Obamacare, losing their jobs, sinking due to inflation of the dollar, and the rich elite left on each coast don't understand their plight, nor do they care.

The reality is that the super rich are taking a bigger piece of the pie resulting in the middle class incomes stagnating. This has nothing whatsoever to do with Obamacare or liberals and everything to do with a country that favours the super rich (both parties). Trump will only make it worse by giving more tax cuts to the rich.

Most importantly, the rich (individuals and corporations alike) have discovered that it is now more profitable to put money in the speculative section of the stock market rather than in more genuine investments. Much of the worlds money is now 'bubble'.

It's not the left doing this to them, whodey, it's the right.

Always has, always will. And, since Reagan, they get fed a steady diet of Fox News and Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity telling them that it's the left, it's the left, when it is they themselves who are stagnating wages and causing grocery prices to go up. It is the massive gravy train going uphill to the 1% that is destroying this country, and what does the country do in response? They elect Trump and his tribe of hooligan 1%'ers. No wonder people think middle America is stupid.

20 plus million working class folks have health insurance because of the ACA. And 15 million jobs have been created since the beginning of 2010.

The idea that a right wing party run by plutocrats is going to improve the lot of the working class is ludicrous as is the idea they have any interest in doing so.

Oh dear, look who walked in, the person who said I was lying when I said that Obamacare would end up costing the middle class more.

Then we see Bill Clinton get up and call Obamacare a crazy scheme that is destroying the middle class? Now was a Clinton actually lying about this? God forbid, but if so, why would he?

All you idiots who champion how great, how wonderful, how marvelous it is for everyone to be insured, and not a single one of you asks: why do we need insurance in the first place?

The reason Trump got elected Suzy is because he was the first to address the fact that jobs were going over seas and illegals were coming over to take jobs that are left. No one else seemed to care, and Hillary voted for NAFTA that helped this trend.

As for inflation, that is because the Fed prints trillions of dollars a year that the US does not have because the programs that Progs embrace are not affordable.

Both parties have walked this road together Suzy. It's time to grow up.

This from the poster who claims money isn't wealth, only pencils are. (It was you, wasn't it, or have I mistaken you for someone else?)

Whether you want to call it millions of pie or one big pie with lots of slices, the fact remains that a larger proportion is going to the super rich and that this is the reason for the stagnation of the middle classes. Saying 'boo hoo hoo' isn't going to suddenly make Obamacare responsible.

I have stated quite clearly that the US in general, both dims and republicans are pro-rich in the US. That is a fact. The republicans are a lot more pro-rich.

I'm sorry, who has been in power in the last 8 years?
The republicans for most of it. Or do you not know how your government works?
