Name your top 3 military leaders in order.
(And perhaps have a small poke at some else's list)
    1. Frederic the Great
    2. Phillip II of Macedon
    3. Napoleon
honourable mentions to Nelson, Julius Caesar, Hannibal

    note:
My list is necessarily Euro-centric because that is all I know.
There are no women because obviously I'm a misogynist.
Only one gay on the list because I am homophobic.

Happy debating .. at least it will make a change from Trump!

Somewhere near the top I would add Geronimo, Dwight Eisenhower and Robert E. Lee.

    Alexander the Great
    Ghengis Khan
    Napoleon

I really need to put Julius Ceasar in there somewhere, but I’m not quite sure who to drop.

Napoleon was so innovative and successful that I don't think anyone can really leave him off such a list.

    I prefer Tamerlane to Genghis.

Of modern commanders, I'd pick Zhukov.

Apparently he himself said Frederic the Great was superior.

I would strongly argue against Alexander the Great.
He inherited tactics, strategy and good generals from his father, fought against technically inferior opposition and for much of "his" battles was not in command.
(Instead he was heroically leading the Companions on "do or die" charges.)

Didn’t Napoleon rate Alexander as the best?

    I could only find
If I had not been born Napoleon, I would have liked to have been born Alexander.

but to be fair I can't find the Frederic the Great quote I'm sure I have read!

I came across it by accident when reading up on Napoleon, as a result of this thread actually 🙂

Near the foot of the article.

Edit: I have no idea if it is true by the way.

Difficult to argue against the top three of one of my top three!

    So Napoleon's top 3.
    1. Alexander the Great
    2. Julius Caesar
    3. Hannibal

(Frederic the Great comes in at #5)

Perhaps Napoleon didn't have all the facts regarding Alexander the Great! 😉
