Installing Firefox to fix such a problem is such a bunch of ass.
They're generally completely useless; they always blame it on your PC.

Yes. It comes in a zip file; I don't know how to open those.
Winzip or WinRAR or various other programs.

You've been a true fountain of useless info; I know that. Never heard of WinRaR; had Winzip for a trial period. Don't use zip files enough to make it worth buying.

Sorry, I thought you were running WinXP, and if you are then yes, you do have that program... but if you aren't running WinXP then we all need to know what version you are running???

I don't know if this has anything to do with you, but my DSL stopped working. It comes and goes every couple seconds, which would explain why you can only post a couple paragraphs. I use dial-up now. Do you have a dial-up modem that you can try to see if it's the DSL? If you have the problem I do, then try this: write a long post on RHP that shouldn't go through; hold control and press n to open another page with the same text entry box, and then copy-paste the text to the new page. Then, try sending one of them, and when it doesn't work, keep trying every couple seconds while keeping a master copy of your post unsent in one window. If the DSL is going on and off, then at some point you should catch it while it's on. It has something to do with Windows' inability to clear the Address Resolution Protocol cache (ARP cache). I think it only applies if you use a router though, which is some sort of central device that distributes internet access to computers (generally more than one).

I think you mentioned having a router hooked up to DSL.
I have had trouble with my router basically from day one.
One thing I would try if you do use one is to take the output directly
from the DSL modem, just hook up the main computer to it so its
by itself. Then try your hotmail again, see if it works. If it does, you
know its the router causing some problem TBD.

Marauder, Arrakis is giving you really terrible advice.

It looks to me like you didn't set up your connection properly when you loaded firefox.

It also appears like you're specifically having problems accessing secure pages, therefore your IE has somehow switched something in your security settings.

You will not solve this easily, get someone who knows what they are doing to go over to your house and fix it for you. It will require a bit of trial and error that we can't do over this forum because it will take too long.

If it's just secure sites, try this;
In Internet Explorer, select TOOLS > INTERNET OPTIONS Click on the SECURITY tab, and then DEFAULT LEVEL Click on the ADVANCED tab, and then RESTORE DEFAULTS.

Do not listen to Arrakis. He's complicating things to try to show off his knowledge about all things computer related. Most of the crap he's talking about is completely irrelevant.

Kalsen could be onto something. I had a similar problem with my ISP before. But, before you ring them, can you log into any sites that you have to put in a username and password for? Apart from RHP.

Has anyone even established what operating system he is using I can bet it is mot xp. And appying patches to some other operating system other that what he has will not help.
