I disagree. The limit of said expression does not exist, as the right hand limit (which is infinity) differs from the left hand (which is negative infinity). Therefore, both the right and left hand limits exist, but not the limit itself. One cannot divide by zero, therefore, without further specification.

wasn' expecting anyone to make a deal about that, so let me clarify, let's take the limit as x approaches zero from the positive direction, and we get infinity.If it makes it any better for you, let me completely rephrase, and say that I am taking the limit of (x^2)/(x^4) as x approaches zero, from either direction. we are essentially taking a limit of 1/x^2, except that f(x) is even, so the limit from the positive diection equals the limit from the negative direction.

I was taught that negative infinity was equal to positive infinity as technically there is no such thing as "negative" infinity or "positive" as ininity is a concept of no limit which can be in any direction from zero.
