Funny, the further you move from the city, the safer you *think* you are. The country is full of naive dingdongs who think nothing will *ever* happen, and take no precautions to safeguard their homes. Crime happens everywhere, and if I were a criminal, I'd prefer scoping out remote homes without neighbors, than homes with neighbors. Imagine the hours of fun ...[text shortened]... ard. You don't even need to bust the window, just walk on in through the unlocked front door.

Just wondering how many guns people keep in their house/truck/office?
I'm guessing there are lots more in the U.S. than other countries, but you never know.
Personally, I own a Smith & Wesson .38 revolver and the kids each have a .22 shotgun (they don't have access to unless they are target shooting or hunting) and my husband has a few handguns (2 or 3) that he keeps at the office.
Growing up we had a lot of guns in the house. Two .357's a .44, a .45, a .38, and a rather tiny pistol my mom used when she was a guard. Dad bought her one of the .357's and realized it was too much gun for her. We also had three 12-gauge shotguns, two 20-gauge shotguns, a 16-gauge a semi-automatic .22 rifle, a Remington deer-hunting rifle (can't remember the caliber) and a variety of pellet and bb guns.
I don't personally own a gun. I don't really have the money or time to spend on target practice or hunting. Although when my kids get older I may want to teach them the proper way to handle one.

We are also planing on getting an AK47, maybe two.

deaths caused by guns in AUS 60ish
guns = bad
Originally posted by BonfaThat's moronic. The reason there are fewer gun deaths in Australia is because they are banned and there are fewer people than the United States. Also, does the statistic about 11,000ish gun deaths in the United States include police officers and private citizens killing perps during the commission of a crime or self defense. Guns are a tool. If you think they are bad, you would really think its bad not to have one when you need one (i.e. L.A. riots or New Orleans following hurricane Katrina).

Guns suck. I've never owned one, and don't plan on ever owning one. I think the whole Texan mindset of, "I need a gun to defend myself and my Constitutional liberties" is dated, stupid and highly dangerous.
I don't own a truck. Are there options for people with cars? Or maybe an option for people who would prefer to not own any kind of motor vehicle? ...[text shortened]... e of person, why would I need more than one???
I can't imagine buying guns for my kids.

That's the most convincing pro-gun argument I've come across in a fair shake of barley, Hooter.
