It is of course very difficult to weed out all the factors required to do an apples to apples comparison, but I think it is one hell of a leap to simply state that more guns laws keep people safer.
If we didn't have guns everywhere then we wouldn't need guns for 'protection' and neither would we need gun laws.
It's actually pretty simple.

So, do you have a family? Do you feel it is your responsibility to protect them if need be? What do you plan to do while you wait for the police to arrive to protect them and you?
Why do i feel safe....because i know that not everyone has a gun and that power and the chances are dramatically dropped because of that.
And if someone were to come in with a weapon other than a gun such as a knife, sure if guns were legal in Australia, a gun would give me the upper hand and protect my family. But then everyone else would have a gun. So then why would this maniac be carrying a knife. He'd have a gun, not giving me the upper hand.
Cut to the point.
If you have a gun then everyone else has a gun coz its legal
so therefore you having a gun and your assaulter having a gun is no more protection than if you had a knife and the person assaulting has a knife.
The difference is this...I believe (and i think its common sense) that the situation with the knife will cause a far less hazardess situation than the gun situation.
The ratio of gun casualities in other countries with banned gun's to the US is substantially and quite ironically (considering that a gun is meant to protect youself) different

Personally I don't have a problem with people owning guns, however, I have noticed that the people who want to own a gun are generally not the people I want to see actually owning them...

Just wondering how many guns people keep in their house/truck/office?
I'm guessing there are lots more in the U.S. than other countries, but you never know.
Personally, I own a Smith & Wesson .38 revolver and the kids each have a .22 shotgun (they don't have access to unless they are target shooting or hunting) and my husband has a few handguns (2 or 3) that he keeps at the office.

Lets keep hunting rifles then, because a criminal won't be hiding that under his trench coat.
Then some people will say, but they want to use their guns to go and shoot at the range on Sunday morning before church.
etc. etc.
Just melt all the guns and let's use the metal to make fuel cells for hybrid cars.
Two birds with one stone...

So much more style than a gun.

Why do you insist on having things around that people can use to kill with?
"I could kill a stewardess with a plastic knife. In fact, I could kill a stewardess with my bare hands, well, I have really big hands. I could probably kill two stewardesses at the same time..."
Eventuallyl everything is a weapon you could kill someone with.
