We started off the '68 World Series by losing game 1 to the Cardinals as well. But we won.

Kenny Rogers approaching the biggest game of his long carreer. He's been such a poor postseason pitcher - up until this year. What a chance for retribution!

I heard something like 7 out of 9 teams have won the series with a weeks rest, but game one is usually the hard one to win.

Now The D will get back into their grove, and Cards'll be lucky to have a 6 game series.

Badmoon... would be nice for The Roaster to do well. I guess he's on the hill tonight? Looking forward to it.

Assuming it quits raining here in Detroit. It's been raining all day. I'm not sure they'll end up playing today.

They are playing anyway, 3rd inning and the roaster has given up 1 hit and got 3 k's with a base on balls.

Kenny Rogers played a heck of a game. Man was on a mission. Looks like it is going to be a good series. 🙂

23 consecutive scoreless postseason innings for Rogers. This has been one of the greatest postseason pitching performances of all time. Four more innings and he'll tie Christy Mathewson. Amazing. Craig Monroe hit his 5th homerun of the postseason, and Rollercoaster Jones gets a nail biting save.

talking baseball here. After the 62 yard field goal I don't wanna talk football for at least a few days. the talk is baseball in this thread, and its soothing to my hurt football pride.

Can someone explain to me (a simple Englishman) why Rogers didn't pitch the final innings? I've never really understood why the pitchers play for around 7 innings and then be replaced - is it part of the rules? I could understand in Game 1 when Reyes was replaced after the home run was scored in the ninth 'cos you want the guy to come away confident, but what was the reasoning with Rogers in Game 2 - not to mention the guy that replaced him almost gave away the game!

because they probably want him to pitch game 5 or 6

So is that because they want him to keep him from injury, or because the rules state that only a certain number of pitches can be thrown by each pitcher in the series?
