That is what the umps did, per the Card's request. Again, the Umps can't do anything about it unless the other team asks.
So, again. Why didn't the Cards Call Him OUT?

As I understand it, the speculation is because of the friendship between the coaches, the Cards coach didn't want to embarrass the opposition, but certainly did want the 'substance' removed, BUT the Cards coach got angry when this explanation was put to him, so...

I missed the game... What Went Wrong?!©

With runners already on first and second, the commentators here in England were explaining how, apart from the fact it was a botched throw, it should have been an automatic throw to second base anyhow in order to go for the double play, leaving one runner on third. There was much head-scratching as to what made the pitcher go for third base - maybe he thought he could get a TREBLE play 😲 Now that's something I'd like to see.
Please forgive any obvious idiocy in the above paragraph - I've watched a total of seven baseball games in my life - four games World Series 2005, and three games this year...

The pitcher should have thrown to second because that runners will always have a better jump to second and third, so you hope to get the guy on second first with a short throw to first. That was dumb, I wish I saw it.
I wonder if they'll get the game in tonight, I heard there might be rain.

Edit: Looks like 20-30 minutes until we have a game. Which side do you think the delay hurts more? I would think Cards' because the fans are gonna be pissed and hopefully freezes Suppan a bit.
Things are going very well. We've got the Cardinals set up for an exact repeat of the '68 Series now. Thus far, the game order has been identical. Cardinals win game 1. Tigers win game 2. Cardinals win games 3 and 4. So the Cardinals lead the Series 3 games to 1, just as they did in 1968. Of course, in '68 the Tigers came back to win the next 3 games in a row to take the Series. Of course, the same thing will happen this time around. We had to help the Cardinals out today to make sure they won by making a few "errors." It just wouldn't do to upset precendant by evening the Series at 2 games apiece. So now the stage is all set for a glorious Tigers' comback victory. Mark my words.

I did think that early in the game, Tim McCarver was being much too critical of the Tigers, such as Monroe failing to move the runner over to 3rd base. I mean pointing out the bad play is one thing, but to keep on it for as long as they did......it was as if Simon Cowell was invited to the booth as a special guest.
Later on, of course, when the wheels finally started to fall off, all the criticism finally seemed justified. Maybe if Leyland were as critical of his players as McCarver has been.
