Yes, let's keep looking the other way while more rules get broken in our national pastime. If this trend doesn't cease, you might as well start throwing those record books into the trash.
Cheating is an integral part of baseball. From the phantom tag, to sign stealing, to corked bats, to Gaylord Perry's spitball, it's all part of the game. As the old adage goes: If you're not cheating, you're not trying.

So that makes it ok? Do you condone it? Should there be anything done to prevent what happened last night from happening again? Or do you feel that this type of "turning a blind eye" doesn't hurt the game? And if so, where does it stop?

No, that doesn't make it OK. The umps should try to stop it as best they can, but we all know it goes on every day. If a pitcher gets caught with sandpaper in his glove, he gets ejected, we all have a good laugh at his expense, and we move on. It's really not that serious of a crime, in my opinion.

That type of speculation just doesn't interest me. Did he have a 'foreign substance' on his hand? Did he not? I don't know, but it's a moot point now as the game is in the record books. If the umps had decided he was doctoring the ball, they should have ejected him. They didn't do so, so that's the end of the story as far as I'm concerned. Everything else i ...[text shortened]... ow let's see how closely the media scrutinizes his hand if the Series goes to game six.
This I agree with. You can't turn back time. Why didn't LaRussa tell the Umps to inspect his hand in the first when Vizcaino came down to tell him something was up? Who knows...

Baseball is all about cheating, as we all know.

I wouldn't say it's ALL about cheating. But there's certainly room for a little fudging around the edges.

My guess is that if the series goes to 6, the Cards' will be asking Rogers to use this 'substance' again. That's the only way they'll be able to beat him.

It was washing his hands that really got him going! They should put a sink right in the dugout.

He would pitch like absolute **** if he were to pitch an away game. It's only cause he's pitching at home that he does so well. Leyland would never start him away, though. He knows that his post season "choke-artist-turned-golden-boy" would break under pressure if he wasn't on home turf.

Your point being...? As far as I'm concerned, that's just strategy, a very effective one at that. As a manager you have to go with what works. Like Larusa replacing Scott Rolen with Speizio in the NLCS. It paid off huge for the Cards. You have to go with what works. If that means only pitching Rogers at home, then that's what you have to do.

I can say one thing, Having had Kenny Rogers play on the Texas Rangers, I know a lot about Kenny. He is one of the best defensive Pitchers I have ever seen play the game. He and the catcher "Pudge" Rodriguez work well together. As far as the brown it was probably dried mud from the infield after fielding a ball. The last thing an opposing manager wants to do is ruffle the feathers of Kenny. He will come back and kick your behind. He is a hot head that can bring it. Kenny has done well this year and if I were him I would pour iodine on my hand pryor to the next game just for fun or brown dye. If I were the pitching coach I might tell all my pitchers to do the same.😉 Give the media something entertaining to chew on.

This is correct. I was just pointing out that he wouldn't be able to handle an away game.

Keep telling yourself that.

Why didn't the Card's coach ask the ump to check it out while The Roaster was on the hill? From what I understand the umps were told between innings and they asked him to clean his hand.

The umpires, had they been asked while he was on the hill would have been able to have an ump look at his hand, and toss him from the game.

So, please explain why it was handled the way it was by the Cards between innings?
