The point is that we take our names from our cultural background, some of our football teams (soccer) started over 100 years ago, so names like "rockets", and "Tigers" jusrt weren't in the mindset of the common people. Historically speaking, we just have a whole lot more of it, so it isn't suprising that the Americans derive their names from more c de of place in all the club Official merchandise. . .that is a mute point mate.
And which point is moot? It's still not the official name of the team.

Our football clubs have name extentions, so do theirs.
Our clubs gained our names a hundred years ago, so it is not suprising that the americans have names that are a bit more contemporary.
Although our clubs dont have childish names, the fans and the clubs have been more than happy to adopt childish nicks in their official merchandise, therefore making them no different to the Yanks. . . .What don't you understand ?

I understand Oakland Raiders better then NFL Oakland. With NFL Oakland I would not have the Raiders logo? Do your teams have a logo? P.S. Auburn Tigers How is it you have a Golden Eagle for a mascot?
Here's the logo of my football team, which is 113 years old:

We're unofficially nicknamed the Dragons, hence the dragon on top of the logo. Over here, if someone asks someone else what's his team, it's very unusual to say the nickname. I'd always say it's F.C.Porto, never the Dragons, even if I know that the person would understand which club I'm talking about.

Read what I wrote about our nicknames, it's not like I've been hiding that fact.
