No, no. At least I hope not, though I feel like it's a strong possibility as much as I'm struggling here. It was said facetiously.

You made a 'joke' about Alzheimer's?

Give the guy a break. Not everyone new is a troll or is putting up a fake persona.

Well I was going into a quantitative mood where a qualitative mood is called for, so I'll drop it.

The guy is a typical church Christian.

Apparently humor and sarcasm don't go over well here. But that's to be expected in a chess players' forum.

"It's not humor if it's not funny...." There, let me go ahead and say it for you and crank up the sound of 4 or 5 clapping seals.

'Funny' is not universal. Some find things funny others not yet others offensive, etc.

But humour and spirituality should go hand in hand and if your belief is strong enough then you should be able to handle jokes directed at your religion

This "spirituality" forum is pretty cynical and humorless. Not complaining but it explains why there are roughly half a dozen regular posters left.

Reminds me of the time I moved to a new town and Easter came up so I picked a church at random so I could attend a worship service. When I walked in, the pews were empty, but for about half a dozen folks in the front row. The place was dark, dusty, and creepy. The preacher spent the sermon condemning people who own any likeness of Jesus whether it be sculpture or painting. Went on and on about idolatry, hell fire and brimstone.

I threw a ten dollar bill in the basket on my way out. Oh, and the people in the congregation turned out to be children and in-laws of the preacher. He was literally "preaching to the choir" but sadly, only had 6 or so people left to preach to.

Yeah. That's the feel this place gives me. And I'm sure it's the feel it gives anyone who dares step in here, hoping for some fresh, productive repartee.

Sure man, But if you're a Christian - which I assume you are, then you are in the majority on this forum. As far as religious affiliations is concerned anyway.
The problem for you comes from other fellow Christians much of the time.

when you affiliate yourself with some label or faith (Christianity in this case ) then you have to back it up . And we are talking about 40000+ denominations. You gotta wade through that and make your own position clear. Otherwise we could assume you are in league with the KKK (a Christian denomination. ) you get my point?

You really contemplate suicide?

Why not makes 'jokes' about Alzheimer's and suicide and lament the lack of humour...

Oh, but wait...

Case in point. Thank you.

Oh, and don't chalk up another internet 'win' ... "Hey guys, we did it! We ran another one off!" It's not that I feel challenged or victimized. It's old and dirty here. The rest of the internet has moved on. There are many places where lively, interesting conversation goes on.

"So why'd you come here in the first place?" To check it out and see what's going on. Now that I've done that, I wish you all the best and I'll finish my drink and head out. Just not my kind of saloon.

"Oh! He made another inappropriate joke, this time about alcoholics!" they say, as he walks out through the swinging doors.
