So much for "love thy neighbor".
Yep so much for that.

Isn't there more to being a Christian than merely knowing the words of the Bible?

How about understanding the meaning of the words?

The context is neutral. It seems that the word "Christian" only started being used as the Bible was being wrapped up.
Who was being called Christian for what reason.

Unfortunately there don't seem to be very many Christians who understand the words spoken by Jesus while He walked the Earth.

Evidently it's not a prerequisite for being a Christian.

Anyone can claim to be a Christian and most would demand you accept the self proclaimed mantle as true.

Understand the words...and then your own actions and words should be aligned, otherwise, it's fake.

Just goes to show you don't understand the words.

There you go.

Hear, understand, believe, follow and keep the words that Jesus spoke while He walked the Earth.

This was perhaps the most prominent theme in the gospel according to Jesus.

Are you saying that a person's actions and words don't matter?

You can call yourself a Christian, then just do and say whatever you want?

Yes but the good news is that a man is now sitting beside God's right hand in Heaven.

They're all Christian all right. They're just not true disciples of Jesus.

I have hesitated to call myself a Christian. The primary reason is because I would consider myself to be a terrible example of what a Christian should be.

But I'm workin' on it.

You should realize it is Jesus not you that makes one a Christian, Jesus' blood shed for you, and God's Holy Spirit in you that matters.

Maybe you're right, but my 'flesh' is certainly getting in the way.
