I think you should really take your controversy directly to God and pour out your heart to God.

I think your continued examination of other Christians about this is scratching at an itch you will not relieve in that manner.

I don't think winning an argument will do for you what you hope it will do for you. And that is all I have to say this morning about it. Try taking up your bothering with God pouring out your complaint to HIm until you get a word from the Holy Spirit very personal, very intimate and tailored to you.

What happens if divegeester goes ahead and does this ~ pours out his heart to God, like you did ~ to seek resolution to this doctrinal problem ~ and comes back having found that you are wrong about "eternal torture", and he is right?

I love Psalm 136. Always have -

" For His loving kindness is forever " again and again.
Read it everybody.

I'm stopping everything to read it aloud right now!

' To him that smote Egypt in their firstborn: for his mercy endureth for ever.'

Surely that is a contradiction?

Praise the Lord Jesus !
I just enjoyed Psalm 136 - the whole thing.

But I noticed "His loving kindness is forever." is repeated throughout the Psalm about 26 times.

However, it is also repeated in connection to God judging some advasaries of Him and His people.

IE.

To Him who struck Egypt in their firstborn, For His loving kindness is forever. (v.10)

And brought forth Israel out of their midst, For His loving kindness is forever. (v.11)

With a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, For His loving kindness is forever. (v.12) ...

To Him who divided the Red Sea apart, For His loving kindness is forever. (v.13)

And brought Israel over through the midst of it, For His loving kindness is forever. (v.14)

And shook off Pharoah and his force into the Red Sea, For His loving kindness is forever. (v.15)

...

To Him who struck great kings, For His loving kindness is forever. (v.17)

And slew majestic kings, For His loving kindness is forever. (v.18)

Sihon the king of the Amorites, For His loving kindness is forever. (v.19)

And Og the king of Bashan, For His loving kindness is forever. (v.20)

As you can see, out of the 26 verses in which we are told of God's everlasting " loving kindness " there are some passages which involved God's judgment too. The Christian should believe these verses also.

You see, to rid the adversaries of His will can also be a part of His everlasting kindness.

These English versions of Psalm 119:160 say His judgments are also forever.

Aramaic Bible in Plain English
The origin of your word is the truth and all the judgments of your righteousness are for eternity.

Jubilee Bible 2000
The beginning of thy word is truth, and every one of the judgments of thy righteousness is eternal.

King James 2000 Bible
Your word is true from the beginning: and every one of your righteous judgments endures forever.

American King James Version
Your word is true from the beginning: and every one of your righteous judgments endures for ever.

So the Christian should take in the whole council of God.

The issue though is not about God's kindness, but his mercy. I honestly struggle to see mercy in the highlighted parts of Psalm 136.

I don't object to that rendering.

You still have a few verses where to His redeemed His mercy calls for the judging of some other people. At least, in this Psalm that is to a temporal degree.

IE Pharoah, Og, Sihon.

If you wanted to choose a Psalm devoid of judgment and consisting only of everlasting "mercy," this isn't it.
