Well it would seem so. It seems with a little research that one could find out that pagan civilizations believed in such things as an after life that was either good or bad on you depending on how you did in life. All the Bible says is that your dead and awaitng a resurrection either to heaven or back on the earth where we were created to be in the first place. In fact the faithful men of old such as Noah, Moses and Abraham never mentioned anything to any of the bad ones that they encountered that they were going to burn in a Hell. Nor either that they were going to heaven but were waitng a resurrection back on this earth.
So where did this burning in hell forever come from? Maybe the Lake of Fire means something else. Maybe just being out of existance forever and never having the chance to be resurrected to any kind of life. Revelation says that Satan is eventually thrown there too....Interesting.

The way I see it, if it was necessary for us to have a clear understanding of the nature of the afterlife then Christ would make sure His statements were unambiguious. Much the same way He spoke in detail about faith and belief and good works. There is no mistaking their importance.
It could be that we have to really want the truth and be willing to not except any pagan ideas and do the research and the correct prayer to God to get the right answers. Maybe one would almost have to start from the beginning and start fresh and not listen to opinions or phylosophys of men. And be willing to ecxept that what they believe may not be correct. After all God is very exact in his words in the Bible. So it's not wrong. Jesus was not wrong. And neither of them want to confuse us. But it was written in such a way that it does take a little work to see what is being said to us. Especially with Satan trying to destroy us all...So the truth is there...

Although I have seen nutcase Christians who think you have to believe that the creation was six 24 hr periods otherwise you cannot get salvation. The only truth that matters is that truth which Christ spoke clearly of.

I am pointing out to you that you do not know what you are talking about.
You interpret as me trying to convert you. Besides, what is wrong with me trying to convert you.
Forty years of Bible study and you failed to read about the commission to preach the Gospel to every creature under heaven?
Sorry, no guilt felt here.

Name me three teachers who teach that you cannot get salvation unless you believe in six 24 hr periods of creation.
Three names.
And if you are lying, (and I will check it out), you'll be called on it as lying.
If you speak the truth. I will admit that you found someone who made that a requirement of salvation.
Three names please.

Except His clear words about compeling people to believe the Gospel message.
That comes under the naughty heading of trying to convert people, a definite no no to Rakj999.

Right here:
The teaching concerning the acceptance of God's invitation LUKE 14:15-24
Paticularly this part of His parabolic teaching - "And the master said to the slave, Go out into the roads and hedges and compel them to come in, so that my house may be filled." (v.23)
You did not notice this in forty years of Bible Study? "Go out into the roads and hedges and COMPEL them to come in, so that my house may be filled."
Don't worry. I will not longer "compel" you to think about a personal relationship with this wonderful Jesus Christ.
I shake off the dust. I go on to someone else who may listen.
