Zeppelin incorporated a lot of that stuff into their songs, but managed to pull it off.

With the exception of COG (check em out), and The White Stripes nothing good has come out in the last 7 years. Most of it all sounds the same... 80's pop with distorted all-down strummed guitars and David Bowie signing.
