No offense intended, but if everything is as young Bad Wolf says it is, then your advice is the same crappy thing his mother is saying when she's ignoring his torment. The truth of the matter is that (so long as we're hearing the truth) Bad Wolf is the victim of abuse, both mental and physical. He should force everyone around him to choose sides, including the cops.

A chess site is not the place for an abused person to get advice, and it is no the place for people to underestimate the extent of someone's distress. If anything, everyone should take this as seriously as murder in order to be sure your conscious' are clear when the dude gets murdered by his freak-o brother. If he's playing a joke on everyone, then he'll suffer the wrath of the forums. Until it's decided, you shouldn't be giving him moron advice.
I think his parents should be dealing with it, not a chess forum. It's their house and their sons and they know the extent of what is happening between the boys. So my crappy advice doesn't count anyway π

This is one of the reasons why.
Is this for real? I grew up with a whole brood of brothers and the first thing you learned even before walking was never let them see you cry and no matter how much it hurt just keep on swinging till you broke an arm.
My parents had far better things to do than play referee to us boys and when it was all said and done we had better clean up any blood we got on moms floors.
Through all the stitches and casts not once did anyone ever think of calling the police or whined about abuse. It was nothing more than a few growing pains along the way to adulthood and to this day all us boys are thicker than thieves. With more than a few good stories to tell over a few beers while comparing old war wounds of our youth.
What's happened to families these days?

What age did all that fighting go on for?
Was all of that fighting pushing you towards depression?
Why should I have to deal with this? I haven't done anything wrong.

I think it lasted right up till each of us moved out. As for depression, not at all. I think it all evened out when it was another one of the neighborhood kids looking for trouble and got a fist full of fury from the whole herd of us. We may have fought a lot with each other but we stood up for each other a lot more often.
It's not much different from a pack of wolves or other such animal in the wild. Ever see how the pups play fight and assert domination over each other to determine the pecking order? There's always one weak little pup who ends up taking all the crap but is still an essential part of the pack as a whole none the less. He never did anything wrong either. It's just a part of life.
And when you finally do get out into the real world I sure hope you don't expect a lot of civilised, polite and gentle behaviour from your fellow human beings because it just isn't going to be there. There's an A-hole standing on every corner bud.
Why should you have to deal with it? Sorry I don't get this question really. Why should little innocent babies be forced to starve to death in agonising pain from hunger and dehydration while the rest of the world eats and drinks to obesity? Why should they have to deal with that? What did they do wrong? Not a damn thing that's what. It's the simply reality of life kiddo.

As I said in my last post - this isn't a place to get the advice he needs if this is a serious situation.
Wolfie: If police are to be involved, then why not go and talk to them now, before it becomes an emergency call? π

And it's not like this was an every day occurrence either. All in all it was just a part of growing up in a large family and taking the good with the bad. None of us were any the worse for it or became social outcasts or did prison time or anything. I just don't get what people keep on whining about. We're dealt the hand we get and we manage the best we can.
Originally posted by Pawn QweenI've already addressed my jokes in previous posts. I will call your moron advice exactly what it is. Your post had no obvious joke in it, so your advice might be interpreted as "ignore the problem because you're obviously blowing the situation out of proportion." That is crap advice to someone who is potentially in a dangerous situation.
Read your previous posts before you say I give 'moron advice'. π

As to anyone saying "I used to fight my brothers all the time, we never called it abuse, dur dur dur, a-huh," first of all it's already been said. Second of all there was talk of knife threats etc. It sounds a lot worse than the odd scuffle with your brothers. I did the same thing (and yes it included hitting in the face, and once or twice a large chunk of asphalt or a home-made spear) but that was when we were five, six, seven years of age, not when we became "adults." If anyone is living in fear for their safety they need to do something about it, preferably that doesn't involve escalating the violence.
Just because this isn't the best place to get advice, that shouldn't be a license for people to give crap advice. As I said, he could be doing this for attention, if so - shame on him. But as it is a serious sort of situation, it should be treated as such until it is found that it's untrue. If he is in some sort of danger, and the best you've told him is "brothers fight, get over it" then he disappears I'm sure you'll wonder if your words could potentially have helped or if they had harmed.
