You have never been anything other than what you are now.
I was a Christian ~ and self-identified as such ~ until about 15 years ago. Now I'd describe myself as an agnostic atheist.

@fmf said
I certainly was not pretending to be a Christian.
The only reason you think that is true is because you think everyone pretends like
you did. Take that out of the equation than yes, you were pretending.

@kellyjay said
So the reality of God is something you have never known.
I felt I knew it in much the same was as you feel you know it.

Yes your claims.

I didn't pretend. You are barking up the wrong tree with all this.

Statements about my past.

No. I wasn't pretending. It was real to me at the time. It was sincere. It was front and centre. It affected everything.

I don't think "everyone pretends". What a silly notion to try to attribute to me.

As I said, the only way your experiences could be the same as mine and everyone
else who has had God in their lives is if we all pretend. If the reality of Christ in us
the Hope of Glory, our salvation is real it is something you have yet to taste. I hope
you two do get together, because He is the very best part of life. Not a god we
make up between our ears, but God, our creator, savior, and friend.

Than stop saying what you had is the same thing I have.

I don't think you are pretending. You are chasing your tail with this line of argument.

It felt like it was. It felt real. There was no "pretending" about it, just as there is no "pretending" about it for you.

If there was no pretending why did you say you were pretending?

I was a committed Christian for well more than 25 years. I believed in "the reality of Christ in us, the 'Hope of Glory', our salvation is real" etc. etc. etc.

I didn't. You have misread one of my posts. I have tried to draw your attention to it 2-3 times. I have not said I was "pretending". Quite the opposite. Go back and look at what I wrote.
