Wilders cleared of hate speech charges by Dutch court.

    This is a good result.

    Agree?

    Agreed.

I do find it a little disturbing that an appointed judge has the unilateral power to determine a person's guilt for making a political statement. But hey, that's their system.

Making a political statement is not illegal, hence the judge not convicting him. FYI, the DA also demanded the charges be cleared. In fact, the only reason this went to trial at all is because the plaintiffs (is that the right word? the ones accusing Wilders) went to court to force the DA to handle the case. They obviously saw no case either, and rightfully so.

Also, the plaintiffs can appeal and from what I understand they are planning to go to a European court.

Now, Wilders is a vile racist, but I would never want to live in a country where people are convicted simply for being scumbags.

    The reasoning is bizarre.
His insults of Islam are not insults of moslims.

So, if I say, for example, that Judaism is evil and preaches taking financial control and that an eye-for-an-eye will only lead to violence and hence, all Judaism and followers of Judaism should be expelled from a country... that's fine. Because it's not hate-speech towards Jews.

Personally I couldn't care less what Wilders says. Anyone who follows his party's programme deserves a slow and painful death (note: I'm not insulting the followers directly, only what they BELIEVE).

I just find the whole argument, slightly, uh, mad.
