    I know does not go against your argument (it supports it, actually), but Trump was not at all inevitable after his strong northeast performance. If he'd lost badly in Indiana (as many people were assuming he would after Wisconsin), it would have been back to something like a 50-50 proposition as to whether Trump could have won a first ballot nomination. The crushing defeat in Indiana was the nail in the coffin for Cruz and #neverTrump.
